Transformation and meanings of brick architecture in the context of modern architecture

(in English): This thesis focused on the phenomenon of unplastered brick through the work of Czech architects Jan Kotěra, Josef Gočár, Otakar Novotný and Jaroslav Rössler, who began working with this material between 1906-1913, and then during the 1920s, when they discovered Possibilities of gray masonry also architects Pavel Janák and Jaroslav Vondrák. Selected architects, working mainly in Prague and other Czech cities, belong to the circle of pupils and collaborators of the architect Jan Kotěra. The method of work consists in the knowledge of brick material through a formal analysis of a specific architectural work and its placement in a broader art historical and socio-historical context, which allows its interpretation. My research questions include how architects work with brick material and how these manifestations change. I am also interested in which buildings are designed in gray material in terms of typology. The work considers the changing relationship of architecture to brick material, as it can be perceived as a purely traditional and modern material. Czech contemporary architecture in czech print media

The bachelor thesis "Media reflexion czech contemporary architecture in czech periodical" deals with research media representation contemporary czech architecture in daily newspapers Pravo, Lidove noviny and periodical Reflex in the period from 1st January to 31st December 2012 and 2016. The theoretical part of this thesis explains media concepts, describes concept of representation and stereotype represantion. Next part of this thesis deals with subject of contemporary architecture, focus on status of architecture in society and also on the relationship of architecture and media. In partical part, first, I Introduce to the metod of quantitative content analysis, then I explain the procedure of reaserch. Then I presents the results of the reaserch and their interpretation. The evaluation of reaserch data I reply reaserch questions and partly disclaims the hypothesis. Czech contemporary architecture in newspapers and periodical is found mostly in Home News and supplements. We can say, that the representation of this subject in media is created in stereotypical framework. The range and the genre of articles depend of the place in structure of media. Generally speaking, it is period between years 1900 and 1914. In the first chapter, the rising individuality of becoming architect Otakar Novotný is presented in the cultural and historical context of early 20th century, emphasizing the Prague architectural development. Next chapter is aimed on his following studies and describes transformations in approach to teaching architecture on Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague around 1900. The main part of the study is focused on the early architectural work of Otakar Novotný. It is done chronologically and by the order of building types.
