Correlation of moraines in the eastern part of the Krkonoše Mountains
Šebestová, Eva ; Engel, Zbyněk (advisor) ; Vočadlová, Klára (referee)
The master thesis deals with evaluating of moraine accumulations age in Łomnica and Łomniczka valley, Poland, and Obří důl valley, Czechia. The aim of thesis is obtained the set of weathering characteristics of moraine accumulations. Weathering characteristics will be used to correlation of moraines in the study area. It was set preliminary position of moraine accumulations according to maps of glacial relief, which were collected for studied area. Subsequently, moraine accumulations were precisely mapped in terrain and suitable locations were chosen for measuring of weathering characteristics. Schmidt-hammer measurement was used for determination of weathering degree of boulders located on moraine accumulations. Proportions of weathering pits and thickness of weathering rind were measured for supplementary data, which characterize state of boulder weathering. Acquired data of moraine accumulations were statistically evaluated using correlation analysis, ANOVA, and cluster analysis. On basis of measured data and using statistical processing, it was confirmed that observed moraine accumulations of three studied locations don't exhibit distinctive differences according to surface weathering. Correlation of moraine accumulations showed congruent relative age of moraines lying in lowest altitudes in the study...
Schmidthammer test as a tool for determining of the relative age of glacial sediments
Procházková, Barbora ; Křížek, Marek (advisor) ; Vočadlová, Klára (referee)
The bachelor thesis is concerned with the use of the Schmidt Hammer as a relative age dating tool of glacigenic landforms. The Schmidt Hammer test is based on the assumption that there is a mutual relation between the degree of weathering of a particular surface and the duration of its exposure. Information about the degree of weathering is expressed by the rebound value (R value). With increasing weathering of a surface the mean R value decreases. Relationship between the R value and the absolute age of a tested surface obtained by numerical dating methods is expressed by the age calibration curve. Principles, conditions and limitations of the Schmidt Hammer test in glacigenous environment were characterized according to the literature. The majority of tested sites were localized in Europe, especially in Scandes. According to the results of statistical analyses, the R value significantly correlates with the altitude and climatic characteristics (mean annual air temperature, mean annual amount of precipitation). For the moraines built-up by granitic material, R value increases with increasing altitude. On the contrary, the R value decreases with the increasing amount of precipitation and mean annual air temperature. Granite proven to be the most suitable material for testing due to small standard...
Pošumavský karst and its structural and tectonic characteristics
Šmídek, Lukáš ; Hartvich, Filip (advisor) ; Vočadlová, Klára (referee)
The aim of this work is to create a summary of the current knowledge relating to the karst areas in Pošumaví. The first part is based on the search of the literature and other information sources, and describes the region of South Bohemia in terms of physical-geographical characteristics. The second part describes the development and distribution of (i) the karst localities in the Pošumaví region. The karst sites were divided into 8 areas according to the individual river basins, and also by the more obvious larger units that form these sites. Also, a list of (ii) the caves, which occur in these areas, was compiled. The third part deals with the methodology. Firstly, (iii) the Pošumavský Karst and each site of karst rocks occurrence are analyzed using available topographic maps. Secondly the electronic data in GIS were analysed to obtain morphological and morphometrical properties of the karst sites. This chapter is followed by results of (iv) structural measurements at selected locations. The measured data - admittedly yet incomplete and from only few sites - do not unequivocally conform with tectonic characteristics of individual areas. The closing chapter summerize the results and present conclusions of this work
Tors and their microforms
Zemanová, Lucie ; Křížek, Marek (advisor) ; Vočadlová, Klára (referee)
This Bachelor thesis is focused on the general characteristics of tors and their microforms. There are two theories of tor's origin: one-stage origin and two-stage origin. Tors are developed all around the world, most often in temperate climatic zone. They show a wide range of sizes, shapes and locations. Tors are found on hill summits and on valley-sides. Tors occur on various lithologies, particularly on crystalline rocks. Many microforms can be found on the surface of tors. The most common microforms include weathering pits, tafoni, karren and honeycombs. The stage of their development enables microforms to be utilised for relative dating. Key words: tors, microforms, deep weathering, slope retreat
Relative age dating of moraines in selected High Tatras valleys
Procházková, Barbora ; Křížek, Marek (advisor) ; Vočadlová, Klára (referee)
The submitted diploma thesis deals with relative dating of the youngest glacigenic sediments (moraines) in the upper parts of some selected valleys in the High Tatra Mountains. These moraines were stabilized after the last cold events of the last glaciation cycle. The Schmidt hammer (SH) test was used for the assessment of their relative age. This method is based on the assumption that there is a mutual relation between the degree of weathering of a tested surface and the duration of its exposure. Information about the degree of weathering is expressed by the Rebound (R) value. The measurements were taken on fifteen moraines in four valleys in the High Tatra Mountains (Mengusovská, Velká Studená, Malá Studená and Litvorova valley). A large statistical population of measurements obtained from moraine surfaces were used to analyse the variability of R values means in the same lithology. The moraines were divided on the base of SH measurements into two groups of different age. R value means and standard deviation for these groups (SK_1: R=53,5±1,2 a SK_2: R=58,6±1,5) are significantly statistically different. The results of the weathering indexes were used for the reconstruction of the pattern of deglaciation in selected upper parts of valleys (cirques). Key words: relative dating, the Schmidt Hammer,...
