Expression of interpropositional relationships in the translation of bilateral international treaties
Novotná, Marcela ; Králová, Jana (advisor) ; Uličný, Miloslav (referee)
This extended essay deals with the theme of expression of interpropositional relationships in the translation of bilateral international treaties. In the theoreticalempirical part we characterize generally the functional law style and then we define its features both in the Czech and in the Spanish languages. We offer a short synopsis of its different genres covered by this functional style. We study the question of legal translation and distinguish its two fundamental types - the instrumentally and the documentary translation. We present the genre of bilateral international treaty. By summarizing the information contained in the specialized literature and the translation analysis we determine its dominant features both in the Czech and in the Spanish languages (with the exception of the area of interpropositional relationships which will be dealt by detail 113 in the empirical part of our essay). The area of the interpropositional relationships follows by defining them as the object of our research. The empirical part is elaborated by the method of a qualitative research. In the exemplar material of the bilateral international treaties proceeding from the area of the law of social security we explore the realization of the proposition from the point of view of explicitation and implicitation of its...
Czech translations of Lorca's Gypsy ballads
Řádková, Jana ; Uličný, Miloslav (advisor) ; Forbelský, Josef (referee)
There is no doubt that Federico García Lorca is one of the most famous Spanish poets and dramatists in the world. There are some factors which contribute to his fame: his personality, character of his poetry and dramas and violent death on the crest of his creative wave in 1936. This thesis deals with his collection Gypsy Ballads (Romancero gitano) and compares three different Czech translations. The collection was first published in 1928 and it is considered the best of Lorca's work. He transformed the original form of folk Spanish ballads and enriched it with completely new and original elements. This thesis includes a chapter dedicated to the poeťs life and work. It also presents comprehensive characteristics of the book of poetry itself with description of its contents, language and form, with the emphasis on the translatological aspects of the transfer of Spanish assonance verse into Czech. The basis of this study consists of translatological analysis of the first selection from Gypsy Ballads by Ilja Barta (193 7), first fu ll Czech publication by František Nechvátal and first full Czech publication with assonances by Lumír Čivrný (1956). The analysis of the original and translation is based on the translatological model by Rosario García López, presented in her book Guía Didáctica de la traducción de...

Cuenca Drouhard, Miguel José ; Uličný, Miloslav (advisor) ; Eichl, Radek (referee) ; Vega, Miguel A. (referee)
Dizertační práce Miguel José Cuenca Drouhard ABSTRACT Key words: translation, Czech literature, 20th century, polysystem theory, censorship, history of translation, Čapek, War with the newts History as a scientific tool contributes in a unique manner to the evolution of mankind, its activities and ideas, because mankind, in contrast to things, is formed by its past. In the field of translation studies, History of Translation is perceived as a valuable instrument for understanding the complexity of translation work, and its importance among creative activities and within society in general. Among theories concerning human activities and translation in particular, polysystem theory is characterised by a descriptive and systemic approach that is rooted in Russian formalism and Czech structuralism. Polysystem theory emphasises the dynamic and heterogeneous nature of systems as opposed to the static, homogenous and ahistorical nature of systems which has wrongfully been attributed to the structuralists. Translation activities and its products are mainly part of the target culture's polysystem, because the translation process culminates in the target culture with the final reception and interpretation of the original work, in which in this phase the repertoire of the target system is incorporated. Despite the...

Annotated translation: Historia de la música española
Šindelářová, Marie ; Králová, Jana (advisor) ; Uličný, Miloslav (referee)
The aim of the work with the text I have chosen was to create a functionally equivalent translation of one chapter from a book about Spanish music history, written originally in Spanish. Considering the theme of this chapter, the music of the primitive Hispanic church, I wanted to create a text which would be understood by a Czech reader interested in musical origins of the Iberian Peninsula. The bachelor thesis is divided into two parts - the translation and its commentary, which focus in first place on characterization of the source text and then on analysis of concrete translation solutions which represent the most frequent methods of translation used in the complete process of translation. These solutions go with the most relevant examples chosen from the text of the translation.
