Economic analysis of moon phases on human behaviour
Klečková, Tereza ; Strielkowski, Wadim (advisor) ; Lelovská, Adriána (referee)
The moon and its lunar cycle is a theme that occurs in society since time immemorial. Does lunar cycle affect human life including its economic and social aspects? Do ordinary people and managers of large corporations act differently when the moon is full? Does consumer behavior change? Is at the time of the full moon rising crime and accidents? Can the effect of month on human behavior be scientifically tested? Although the above -mentioned topic may seem a bit bizarre we decided to process it in this thesis. Nowadays is popularization of science very important and widely used by for example the leading economic faculties of leading universities in the USA and the UK. This work attempts to answer the above questions and test the above mentioned context by using econometric methods. In this work we can read about the moon and myths and legends which are bind to it. The thesis presents several studies that have addressed the topic before, and their results. And then it will analyze available data from three basic areas of human behavior - crime, healthcare and business. The results which are part of this thesis imply the existence of the influence of the lunar cycle in two of three selected aspects of human behavior - health and trade.

Estimating the elasticities of labour supply for SMEs in Bosnia and Herzegovina
Šabić, Ada ; Strielkowski, Wadim (advisor) ; Želinský, Tomáš (referee)
This Master thesis aims at testing the intertemporal substitution hypothesis (ISH) for small and medium enterprises in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We predicted a positive relationship between the hours worked and the transitory changes in wages, and tested the hypothesis using the data collected via surveys of small entrepreneurs in North-Western Bosnia and Herzegovina; collecting data on daily income and the hours worked. The estimated wage elasticities are positive and different from zero, according to which it appears that the hypothesis of negative wage elasticities has no empirical evidence in the case of Bosnian and Herzegovinian entrepreneurs. This result implies that the intertemporal labour substitution hypothesis found supportive evidence and that we can reject the daily targeting hypothesis. We also argue that entrepreneurs tend to pursue profits across working days because their main motive for running a business is the accumulation of capital and wealth, so that they follow the pattern of intertemporal labour substitution. The findings can be explained by an unfavourable business climate in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is a result of a long-lasting transition process the country is still undergoing. Keywords: labour supply, elasticity, intertemporal substitution, daily targeting, SMEs,...

Economic Aspects of Remittances and Migration: Case Study of Ukraine and the Czech Republic
Weyskrabová, Blanka ; Strielkowski, Wadim (advisor) ; Luňáčková, Petra (referee)
This thesis is driven by two main objectives. The first one is to provide a general overview of migration in economic theory with a specific focus on remittances and their aspects and impacts. We found that there is no clear consensus about effects of migration and remittances on source and target countries and thus further research is justified. The second aim of the thesis is to analyse migration and remittances between Ukraine and the Czech Republic using primary data from survey questionnaires collected by the Ukrainian Migration Project (UMP). According to our findings, remittances are determined mostly by demographic characteristics and levels of income on both the sending and receiving side, implying their altruistic origin. More importantly, it was not confirmed that remittances are channelled primarily into consumption. On the other hand, remittances do not influence productive spending of households either. These findings contribute to the overall discussion in the area of remittances and may suggest some policy implications.
Economics of tourism and travel: comparison on Czech and German outbound tourism
Němečková, Eva ; Strielkowski, Wadim (advisor) ; Polyák, Oliver (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to compare tourism flows in two countries, Germany and the Czech Republic. Although there are many articles about tourism demand, almost all of them deal with the case study of just one country and do not engage in intra-country comparison. The first part of the Bachelor thesis introduces the general terms with definitions and statistical classification of tourism demand. The main part of the thesis is dedicated to the econometric research that discovers tourism demand of Germany and the Czech Republic and searches for macroeconomic determinants which may influence the number of outbound holiday trips. The last part summarizes the results that, due to the different living standards in Germany and in the Czech Republic, are interesting and demonstrate that the behaviour of German and Czech tourist varies considerably. JEL Classification A12, C23, L83 Keywords tourism demand, outbound tourism, Germany, The Czech Republic Author's e-mail eva7.nemeckova@seznam.cz Supervisor's e-mail strielkowski@gmail.com
On the limits of labour mobility within the EU
Jelínek, Martin ; Strielkowski, Wadim (advisor) ; Turnovec, František (referee)
This Master thesis deals with labour mobility and aims to uncover the main drivers influencing the flows of workers within the European Union (EU). It first provides an extensive overview of labour market, labour mobility and legal framework in the EU. Then it discusses several theories and models dealing with labour mobility. The main part of this thesis consists in empirical analysis of labour flows within EU-25 countries. This analysis is meant to provide statistical evidence of relevant mobility drivers. Contrarily to similar works, this thesis takes into account not only economic and financial factors, but also social, psychological, linguistic and other non-tangible factors that might play important role in determining the labour flows within the EU. The thesis further focuses on specific mobility incentives of the Old and the New Member States. Based on results of the empirical model and the regression analysis, the thesis concludes by discussing the limits of labour mobility and suggesting a remedy aimed at enhancing it.
Daily targeting versus intertemporal substitution - estimating elasticities of labour supply on the example of small and medium enterprises (SME) in the Czech Republic
Hrdý, Rostislav ; Strielkowski, Wadim (advisor) ; Rečka, Lukáš (referee)
This bachelor thesis explores labour supply on the example of small and medium enterprises in the Czech Republic. It contrasts two basic hypoteses - the hypothesis of daily targeting and the intertemporal substitution hypothesis. The hypothesis of daily targeting is based on determination of income which workers try to achieve. On the other hand, the intertemporal substitution hypotesis assumes that hours worked depend on wage rate. I have used the survey to obtain monthly data of work hours and earned wage by Czech entrepreneurs. Based on the obtained data I have tested two hypotheses. Wage elasticities have positive values which lead to rejection the hypothesis of daily targeting. I have offered several possible explanations of obtained conclusions. One of them is the focus of entrepreneurs on accumulation of capital and wealth as the main motivation for business. This is related to recent economic transition in the Czech Republic.
Social and economic impacts of Ukrainian immigration in the Czech Republic
Hluštíková, Kateřina ; Strielkowski, Wadim (advisor) ; Lešanovská, Jitka (referee)
Ukraine is currently one of the largest exporters of foreign labour force, which among other countries has a significant share in the Czech Republic. Based on available literature this thesis summarizes meaning and general impact of migration, especially remittances, and brings an overview of history and causes of Ukrainian migration. The empirical part deals with the evolution of sending remittances in time based on the remittance decay hypothesis. The main purpose of this thesis is to verify whether the duration of a stay abroad has a real impact on the amount of remittances, and whether the remittance behaviour differs for permanent and temporary migrants. Data from questionnaire survey in seven EU member countries provided by MIRPAL (Migration and Remittance Peer Assisted learnings) were used for this analysis. It was determined that propensity to remit declines rapidly with increasing length of stay abroad. However, there was no impact of time on the amount of remittances. Surprisingly, the effect of planned return wasn't proven in relation to the amount nor to propensity to remit. The crucial impact lies in family ties and income, both of which support pure altruistic motives of Ukrainian migrants. JEL Classification: F22, F24, J21, J24 Key words: migration, remittances, Ukraine, Czech...
