Exodus as the Root Experience of Jewish Universalism
Senft, Lukáš ; Lyčka, Milan (advisor) ; Žonca, Milan (referee)
This paper focuses on the philosophy of Ahad Ha-Am. Ha-Am is usually considered as a political thinker, however he dealt with judaism in many of his essays. I attempt to systematize his thesis on religion - my intention is to formulate a coherent summary of Ahad Ha-Am's philosophy of judaism. I analyze his conception of Moses as a key figure to the understanding of a jewish identity. The cultural memory seems as a very important part of Ha-Am's philosophical approach - it helps to hold the memory of Exodus and memory of prophetic ideal of universal justice, these memories have been shaping and preserving a jewish identity across history. Ha-Am's conception of religion is not easy to define which makes it deeply challenging for religious studies: it connects a political agenda with religious tradition, mythology with positivism, and it tries to sublime a particular nationalism into universal humanism. Foster care - negotiating between care and work and gender aspects of care
Studená, Adéla ; Hasmanová Marhánková, Jaroslava (advisor) ; Senft, Lukáš (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with foster care and its position on the boundary of care and work. The term care is understood as "care from love" in the family, which according to societal ideas should be provided regardless of the existence of financial rewards. The term work is used in the sense of paid employment. The boundary is examined on a general and gender level. The core of the bachelor thesis is qualitative research which is based on the analysis of semi-structured interviews with eight foster carers, namely with four long-term male foster carers and four long-term female foster carers in pairs. The thesis concludes that foster care reflects the established gender order, within which care is an activity that is inseparably linked to the identity of women. However, this identity is also professional in nature and penetrates the field of paid work. Nevertheless only women construct their professional identity in the context of foster care and the boundary of foster care between care and work is therefore gendered. In addition the thesis shows through the analysis of the perception of financial rewards by foster carers that "care from love" and the money provided for it are not in conflict, but on the contrary can provide a symbolic expression of the value of care itself. The perspective of...
The influence of veganism on the social life of an individual
Hlavová, Karla ; Orcígr, Václav (advisor) ; Senft, Lukáš (referee)
In this bachelor's thesis, as the name suggests, I deal with the issue of veganism and its subsequent reflection in the social lives of respondents (family, friends, partners, unpleasant situations). I research and clarify life situations that involve a variety of lifestyles and ways of eating. The individual work is divided into the three following parts: the theoretical anchoring of the researched problem, the methodology used and the subsequent research part. In the introductory, theoretical part, I use various concepts to understand veganism from a sociological perspective. In the second, methodological part of the work, I focus on the quantitative exploratory method, data collection, which I obtained through an online questionnaire and a description of the research file. The last, final part is the presentation and interpretation of the obtained results and the conclusions drawn from them. The work brings results confirming the existence of the influence of veganism on the social life of the individual, in each of the mentioned dimensions. The influence occurs mainly in the area of family background, where respondents are most often exposed to prejudice and pressure. The influence of veganism is also felt by the respondents within their social circle, partnerships (eg when choosing a partner)...
A wolf is waiting behind the fence. Multispecies coexistence in Broumovsko region in the Anthropocene
Senft, Lukáš ; Stöckelová, Tereza (advisor) ; Brož, Luděk (referee)
This diploma thesis traces the changing human, animal and technology assemblage after the recent emergence of wolf packs in Broumov region. As the return of wolves coincides with ecological transformations gaining in strength, the central research focus are the possibilities - and impossibilities - of local multispecies coexistence in the conditions of Anthropocene. The research draws upon methods of multispecies ethnography, building on the literature that examines the ontological aspects of multispecies coexistence, including primarily the work of Donna Haraway, Eduardo Kohn, Annemarie Mol, Anna Tsing and Rane Willerslev. The thesis analyzes several modes of situated multispecies coexistence which have been reconfigured or made possible by the return of wolves: administrative and sensual practice of shepherds, methods of mimetic empathy of wolf trackers, emergence of new actors interfering with local events (satellites, subsidy programmes, drought) and the translation of processes on pastures into politically engaged activities of local farmers. The thesis develops the employed concepts in such a way that they enable analyzing the situation in Broumov region as situated making of more-than-human sociality. Key words: multispecies ethnography, wolfs, pastoralism, trackers, more-than-human sociality
