Parenting styles and selfesteem of adolescents

The focus of this thesis is to elaborate on the relationship between the self-esteem of adolescent children and the parenting style of their parents. The sources for this work include Czech, as well as non-Czech literature. In the literature-based part of this work the following topics are discussed: the main aspects of adolescence, family as an important place for children upbringing, parenting styles and types, and the current research into the effects of parenting styles on the adolescent behavioural and emotional outcomes. This thesis further elaborates on the concept of self-esteem; its sources, development through the individual's life, and the focus of current research. Finally, the current knowledge about the association of parenting styles on teenagers' self-esteem will be discussed. A proposal for a project in the form of quantitative research study is also part of this bachelor's thesis, with focus on the relationship between the parenting style and self-esteem of children from Czech families.
