Data warehouse based on IBM technologies and its possibilities

This diploma thesis deals with the analysis of advanced data warehouse concepts where three advanced data warehouse concepts are analysed and their selection is justified. The first selected advanced data warehouse concept is a method of capturing data changes from sources system Change Data Capture (CDC). The second concept is the historization of captured data into historical data collection. The third concept is the application of analytical functions directly within data warehouse technology. A new testing environment has been created to analyse these concepts where the main database system Netezza available in IBM PureData System for Analytics, powered by Netezza technology (PDA), is utilised. This testing environment allowed all selected advanced data warehouse concepts to be reviewed. An impact of the application of these advanced data warehouse concepts has been analysed based on results from the testing environment and practical insights, particularly regarding potential advances. In the testing environment it was verified that all analysed advanced data warehouse concepts are applicable in a data warehouse. In the first advanced data warehouse concept was chosen LiveAudit mapping as appropriate for further data processing, when with this mapping it is possible to unambiguously determine the state of data in a source system at any point in the past. The second advanced data warehouse concept established that data acquired from LiveAudit mapping is possible to effectively process into historical data collection. Based on these findings, there was proposed generic solution of processing data from source systems. In the third advanced data warehouse concept was also proved, that it is possible to work in native analytic environment RGui and move the computation itself into data, which is located in the data warehouse, without the necessity of migration of these data. Further, it is possible to develop and use a new analytic function written in C++ language directly into the technology of the data warehouse.
Implementace Business Intelligence v MVNO

The goal of this paper is to implement Business Intelligence solution for mobile virtual network operator Erbia Mobile. The first part is devoted to description and analysis of concepts and architecture associated with BI implementation. The second part deals with technical aspects of BI introduction to the company based on listed requirements gathered from series of interviews with management. Implementation is initiated by analysis of company data sources and detailed description of attributes essential to the telecommunication industry. Based on requirements and data source examination outputs, multidimensional analysis is created and described in detail. Next part describes individual components (Data Warehouse, ETL, OLAP cubes) implementation as well as different optimization techniques. Given components created on Microsoft platform using Integration, Analysis and Reporting Services. Final reports and dashboard visualizations are created using MS Excel and Power BI software tools.
Practical Application of ITIL Methodology in the Field of Banking Applications Support

The diploma thesis deals with the practical application of a wide-spread service management methodology ITIL in the banking applications support environment. The main goal of the thesis is to formulate recommendations which should in the future contribute to quality improvement and overall productivity increase of the application support in the chosen multi-national company. The theoretical part of the thesis includes a detailed multi-perspective literature review. Based on the review, benefits of using ITIL, its adoption rate across IT operational departments, implementation approaches and possibilities, or perceived shortcomings are identified. ITIL architecture characteristics are provided and IT service management is briefly explained. Furthermore, an agile methodology Kanban is introduced and it is clarified, how it can be seen in the context of ITIL and how it can be used for its extension.In the practical part the chosen company is described at first. Thereafter, an analysis of a current (as-is) state of the application support process is performed. The analysis relies on the data collected from internal documentation, interviews and personal observations. The data is used as a basis for a process model and SWOT analysis. Then an internal reorganizational project based on Kanban principles is described. The most important chapters contain two sets of recommendations. The first one proposes possible improvement steps for the internal project. The second one focuses on selected IT operations management parts (event management, incident management, request management, problem management). Key characteristics are described, metrics are listed, and finally recommendations for identified weaknesses in the chosen company are formulated.
Oracle database systems administration

Master's thesis with the name Oracle database systems administration describes problems in databases and how to solve them, which is important for database administrators. It helps them in delivering faster solutions without the need to look for or figure out solutions on their own. Thesis describes database backup and recovery methods that are closely related to problems solutions. The main goal is to provide guidance and recommendations regarding database troubles and how to solve them. It is shown, how to interconnect these methods with database backup and recovery. Targets were reached by backup methods analysis, real word problems simulations and resolutions were shown as well. The main contributions are practical examples of real word issues, which can be faced by database administrator, including different ways how to solve them. Thesis contains materials and based on them an administrator can decide for the best suited backup and recovery configuration and strategy in a company. Another important contribution was a creation of knowledge objects on mbi.vse.cz. Thesis is separated into three logical units. First six chapters delimit thesis borders, contain bibliography research and introduce into Oracle database issues, including methods for database backup and recovery. Second practical part aims at backup and recovery analysis and includes database troubles simulation and their resolutions. The last part is dedicated to knowledge objects on mbi.vse.cz.
Methodological framework of system analysis for the development of the banking system

The diploma thesis deals with software development methodologies and modeling tech-niques that can be used for the development of core banking system. The main aim of the thesis is to design a methodical framework of analysis which takes into account the spe-cifics of the banking environment and the development of the core banking system itself. The thesis is divided into three parts. The first part is devoted to the specifics of core banking development, analysis of life cycle software models, software development methodologies and their suitability for the development of the core banking system. The suitability of individual software development methodologies is assessed by the METES system for evaluation and selection of methodologies. The second part is focused on modeling techniques and notations, especially on UML, BPMN notation and CASE tools. The third and final part of the thesis contains a design of the methodological framework of analysis for the development of a core banking system focusing on the specifics of the banking environment.
Comparison of commercial deduplication solutions for data backup

Thesis focuses on data deduplication, mainly in medium-term advances, using commercial solutions. Principles used in disk arrays deduplication are not part of this document. The thesis specifically shows a brief introduction to deduplication, which serves as an example of why it was necessary to come up with an improved solution. This solution is sparse indexing method, which was created in the laboratories of Hewlett Packard Ltd. This method is discussed in more detail and shown in which solutions specifically can be found. Following the analysis of sparse indexing method is the evaluation of a particular solution of backup and deduplication from HP in comparison with a solution that offers some of its competitors. At the end, there is the evaluation and commentary of the results, together with the general recommendations and best practices from a real, large-scale, data structures. These recommendations are put as specifications for particular operational tasks associated with deduplication approaches and procedures.
Development of application for image searching and creating backups of images for iList journalists

The thesis is focused on the design and development of the web application Ilustracka, which is used to searching, uploading and creating backups of images. The application is designed for student newspaper iList. MMSP methodology is used. The main objective of this thesis is the design and development of the web application using the MMSP methodology. This thesis defines the problem and specifies the requirements first. This part is then followed by choice of technology and description of architecture. The chapter with the development of application describes programming with Meteor platform. The application is tested according to the MMSP methodology. At the end of this thesis application usage is analyzed.
Self-service BI in higher education

This diploma thesis deals with the design of self-service business intelligence reporting in higher education. The main goal of this thesis is to create set of analytical dashboards in Tableau. First chapter is an introduction into the business intelligence area and its core principles and types of users involved. Next, main disadvantages of traditional enterprise level BI tools are explained from business user´s point of view. Self-service BI is introduced as a response to these issues. The main advantages and requirements for successful implementation into enterprise environment are described. At the same time, there are reasons why it is not appropriate to use SS BI as the primary enterprise-wide reporting. Subsequently, the Tableau platform is introduced as a representative of selfservice BI tools. The Tableau Desktop tool is characterized as a reporting tool. It explains how to connect to data sources and how to work with extracts of data. Further, the method of working with the tool is explained and given examples of Tableau analytical functions. The Tableau Server´s architecture is described along with its security features. The administration and assignment of user roles are presented. The last part shows the process of publishing a dashboard from Tableau Designer to the server. The following section deals with the analysis of the higher education. The organizational structure is described and the main and support processes identified. Subsequently, metrics and dimensions are designed to track these processes. The final part proposes sample reports in Tableau for the area of subject evaluation, student study visits abroad, project activities and monitoring of accepted applications for study.
Test case management tool - web application

The goal of this thesis is to analyze, design and implement a web application for test case management. Application is made for a specific project team of a specific company. However is suitable for everyone who wants a simple open source applications for test case management which covers needs of small teams. Application is free of charge. The thesis consist of two main parts. First part is theoretical and aim to analysis and description of application and the second one are source codes. In the first part are also described used technologies.
Principles of data modeling for Retail in IBM Enviroment

The diploma thesis deals with the explanation of the principles of modeling of data warehouse for retail in IBM environment. The theoretical part contains and explains retail itself and its analytical needs. At the same time, there is also information on the possibilities of using BI in retail and analysis of data modeling options. In the practical part is a proposed data model, a built data warehouse and a creation of dashboards in IBM Cognos Analytics for retail. This thesis ends with a summary and an evaluation of the achieved results.
