FUTURE SETTLEMENTS IN BRNO
Bednaříková, Monika ; Pavlovský, Tomáš (referee) ; Havliš, Karel (advisor)
The diploma project proposes a concept for the future development of the housing estate Vinohrady. More than the development itself, it offers a new perspective on the use of space of the estates. It proposes means of achieving the recognition of hierarchy of the spaces. These spaces shall range in the scale of public, semi-public, semi-private, and private spaces. The goal is to adapt the spaces of the housing estate so that they behave and function like the spaces of the so-called traditional town, where the movement of visitors and users is intuitive. The space hierarchy itself suggest how to navigate in the urban environment. The housing estates should not be perceived in a negative way, but rather to be perceived as they are right now in the present, without being attributed unflattering epithets or connotations associated with the term of the previous regime, when most of these estates were built. In contrast, I want to emphasize the potential of good housing for the future generations, that can be achieved with minimal effort and interventions, which should have the effect on and support the sustainability of our environment, and thus also the urban environment. From the point of view of saving energy and materials, it is preferable to work and use what is already given, rather than unnecessarily create new suburban colonies or encourage the creation of new sub-urban areas, where in a deliberate manner people take up new grounds for construction. The housing estates can become a good place with its own genius loci and specific image.

Bronx - change of adress - (conversion of jail to the creative centre)
Karasová, Miroslava ; Pavlovský, Tomáš (referee) ; Havliš, Karel (advisor)
This thesis presents architectural-urban study using an old jail facility - a major object of the 18th century. Three variants are processed, the first two keep the shape of the old building blocks and give it a new functions with different scenarios. The third variant is more detailed. The proposal consists of the jail original shape - ie. it reveals the square-shaped building with two courtyards. There are two outbuildings demolished and into the resulting space are installed three new buildings, which complement with the existing buildings and completes public space. Two new high-rise buildings, built on the south side, acts as a new landmark and a new building in the north serves to supplement the services appropriate to the locality. Buildings and spaces are linked to the main pedestrian routes, creating a cascade of continuous space - the urban interior.
Revitalization of the Central Station and the Underpass Beneath
Richter, Jiří ; Pavlovský, Tomáš (referee) ; Havliš, Karel (advisor)
Current Status Because we are waiting for transfer of the station, the railway is in a deplorable state. Technical and capacity (we can check 30 000 passengers per hour, during the fair is required 50 000 passengers per hour). During the reconstruction is needed to create a network of stations that are interconnected with the public transport. The train will become part of public transport and reduce the burden on the main station node. Move or don't move? The question which is difficult to answer. Both options have their advantages and disadvantages, and they are changing over time. The situation has changed very much in the advent of the financial crisis. Therefore, it should be professional discussion leading to the optimal solution. This does not happen, politicians are divided into two groups already know in advance that their pproposal is the best. Afterwards, looking for a reasons. I decided to check the option not move. The biggest drawback of this option is problematic construction (in service or temporary move). The biggest advantage is its link to public transport and the proximity to the town. Region Connection to the region is very important for me. This I see as a advantage of Brno, which should be further developed. Together with the development of public transport, automobile transport should be reduced. Barrier My work is trying to disprove the idea that the railway creates a barrier. On the contrary, I try to look at rail as a place that connects. Not only each stop, but the parts of the town as well. Construction Reinforced concrete arches are arranged in a triangle layout, creating a spatial truss. There is a train station in it. Trains ar placed on it. Typology The station is treated as free space, which is subsequently filled with different functions. These functions may be, if necessary, modified.
