Rodents as a forest pest species
Heroldová, Marta ; Suchomel, J. ; Zejda, J. ; Obdržálková, D. ; Zapletal, M.
Dynamic of rodents species in forest as well as in the fields was evaluated. Impact of rodent species on forest or orchard young trees was found to be in positive correlation with their density. Individual species of rodents and their foraging ecology in relationship to impact on forest regeneration was discussed. In case of common vole strong impact on orchard trees in case of high population densities and long and snowy winters was stated. Importance of long time monitoring with possibility to predict rodents gradation was stressed on.
Abundance of common vole in Southern Moravia district and some other districts of the Czech Republic in the summer, after-harvest period (from 3.7. to 4.9.2001) in relation to the forest stands
Zapletal, M. ; Obdržálková, D. ; Pikula, J. ; Zejda, J. ; Pikula ml., J. ; Beklová, M. ; Heroldová, Marta
This contribution is the summarized information on the common vole abundance of Southern Moravia district in the after harvest period in relation to the forest stands. Individual areas are evaluated in relationship to the crop plants, altitude and by the identification points with the identical ecological conditions.
Impact of small terrestrial mammal species on the mountain forest regeneration
Heroldová, Marta ; Bryja, Josef ; Zejda, J. ; Zapletal, M. ; Obdržálková, D. ; Pikula, J. ; Beklová, M.
Impact of small mammal species on forest regeneration was studied at National Nature Reserve Kněhyně in Beskidy Mts. The dynamic of dominance of the most numerous species, important in forest ecology was expressed. After the heavy snow winter with highest population densities of voles 19% of young trees were damaged. Degree of small mammal impact is related to forest management, small mammal population densities and also to the snow conditions.
Small rodent species in forestry and agriculture
Zapletal, M. ; Obdržálková, D. ; Zejda, J. ; Pikula, J. ; Pikula ml., J. ; Beklová, M. ; Heroldová, Marta
Review of the small mammal pest species from the forest and agriculture practice, its basic characteristics, pattern and distinguishing of their damage. Approved methods of pests control from agriculture are recommended to be used also in forestry. The results of the common vole biological control on the Prostějovsko area demonstrate that the birds of pray are no essential for common vole number control. Rodenticids remain to be decisive method.
