Aphasic language production: a linguistic analysis

Tato práce je pokusem přiblížit některé zvláštnosti užívání jazyka, které jsou spojeny s komunikací afatiků. Je rozšířenou verzí původní práce Jazyk a zvláštnosti v dorozumívání afatiků, která vyšla v časopise Jazykovědné aktuality (roč. XLI, 2004, Č. 1 a 2). Nově jsou vloženy kapitoly o agramatismu (kap. 4.2) a tzv. náhradních komunikačních strategiích (kap. 5.0). Dále jsou podány transkripty mluvených projevů afatiků (viz Přílohy) a jejich lingvistické rozbory (kap. 7.0-11.0). Práce obsahuje možná spíše otázky než odpovědi; podnětem k ní bylo setkání s afatickou řečí a afatickými mluvčími. Vycházím z odborné literatury, z videozáznamů mluvených projevů afatických pacientů a z osobní zkušenosti s českými afatiky. Zvláštní jevy afatické řeči, které práce představuje, by neměly být chápány jako typické vlastnosti jakékoliv afatické řeči; cílem je vzbudit prostřednictvím rozborů některé (nejen) afaziologické otázky (viz Diskuse, kap. 12.0).

Development of the contemporary Czech from the point of view of the terms centre and periphery

The theme of this dissertation is a concept of centre and periphery in the description of the systém of language. We deal with theoretical issues of this concept, we analyze particular aspects, that are connected with it (dynamics, fuzzy boundaries of categories, vagueness etc.), its position among other language universals, and its use in the theory of language culture. We demonstrate, that the beneficial effect of this concept lies is manifested in the presence of same of its aspects in the theoretical ground of following linguistic schools, e. g. fuzzy grammar, semantic fields, and most importantly the theory of prototypes, based on the cognitive psychology, that was adopted by the cognitive linguistics. Also, we pay attention to the application of the centre and periphery in the description of the chosen linguistic phenomena and particular developmental tendencies of the contemporary Czech on the morphological level: We demonstrate the crossings of the linguistic units between two categories on the materiál of feminins oscillating between the declension types "žena" and "růže". Using the proper names (antroponyms and toponyms), we ask a question, if we can také this group of nouns as a periphery of one category (system), or an individual subsystem with its own rules.

Between syntax and stylistics - literariness and the stylistic system applied to the syntactic level of the Czech language

This paper is an interdisciplinary review of the cooperation between the stylistic and the syntactic system. The topic we analyze is common to stylistics and the language culture, the syntactic system being its complement. The paper is inteded to be a "deep structure" of any possible stylistic approach to language as well as of any approach from the field of language culture, eg. of any approach that uses stylistic indexing of language means and that lists these indexes in its language descriptions. Current approaches to language culture focus mainly on discussing the criteria of ascribing certain stylistic marks to language means. We presume that the question of which stylistic qualities are brought into an utterance by the means of different structural levels and how these qualities can be reflected in linguistic descriptions is at least of the same importance. Our paper focuses on stylistic qualities of syntactic means and we present them from structural point of view and by means of excerption from current syntactic works.

The lexical means of indefinite quantification in the current Czech

Neurčité lexikální kvantifikátory kvantum jenom udávají (několik), jenom hodnotí (přinejmenším), nebo udávají i hodnotí (většina kvantifikátoru, např. mnoho). Kvantum pouze hodnotí kvantifikátory synsémantické (částicové), ostatní kvantifikátory jsou autosémantické. Částicové kvantifikátory hodnotí nejen kvantum vyjádřené explicitně, ale též kvantum implikované. Autosémantické kvantifikátory mohou být adjektivní, číslovkové nebo příslovcové. Hodnotící složka kvantifikace má relační povahu. Udávané/udané kvantum je velikostně porovnáno s kvantem bázovým a na základě toho hodnoceno jako velké, nebo jako malé. Některé částicové kvantifikátory hodnotí také velikost rozdílu mezi oběma kvanty. Báze kvantifikace může být vázána subj ektivně/intersubj ekti vně, nebo objektivně. Subjektivně/intersubjektivně vázáno je kvantum, které mluvčí v určité situaci pociťuje jako standardní nebo jako nejmenší (už) žádoucí, popř. jako největší (ještě) žádoucí. Objektivně vázáno je kvantum reálné nebo kvantum, které odděluje uskutečnění děje od jeho neuskutečnění. Udávané/udané kvantum může mít povahu mnohosti, rozsahu nebo intenzity. V případě kvantifikace sloves mohou být potenciálně vyjádřeny všechny tyto významy (současně). Metaphor in Czech sign language

Problem of metaphors in Czech Sign Language is handled from a cognitive linguistic approach to language point of view, especially in term of the conceptual metaphor theory, which was formulated by Lakoff and Johnson. The explanation of specifics of the iconic and metaphoric mapping in signed languages is based on recent theoretical works dealing with American Sign Language. Principles of metaphors behavior in signed languages are illustrated on many metaphoric linguistic expressions from Czech Sign Language, which realize eight conventionally conceptual metaphors - (1) orientational metaphors: MORE IS UP, GOOD IS UP, POWERFUL IS UP, THE FUTURE IS AHEAD, THE PAST IS BEHIND, (2) ontological metaphors: MIND IS A CONTAINER, IDEA S ARE OBJECTS and (3) structural metaphor: COMMUNICATION IS SENDING.

The Woman in the Czech Traditional Worldview The Ethnolinguistic Study

The dissertation aims at the analysis of the traditional linguistic worldview of the woman in Czech. Theoretically and methodologically, the dissertation follows from the modern Polish ethnolinguistics, i.e. a discipline focusing on the studies of language in relation to culture, which uses the term of "linguistic worldview", referring specifically to the ways in which the values and experience of the particular society have been written into its language. The aim of the dissertation is to reconstruct the image (the stereotype) of the woman in Czech, i.e. to reveal the structure of stereotypical characteristics related to the woman in the language and the culture. The attention was paid primarily to the traditional image, built in the centuries before the dramatic changes of the society and the women's role in modern times. The analysis of the Czech vocabulary (including phraseology) and of the traditional songs lyrics, minor folklore genres as well as classical Czech literature has led to the reveal and subsequent characterization of four specific modes of the linguistic worldview of the woman, divided according to the three aspects (profiles) - the age, the appearance and the social role - as the young girl (maiden), the wife, the mother and the old woman. Linguistics in the field of special education

Lingvistika je představena v aplikaci na řešení obtíží u lidí s jazykovým hendikepem, kteří se nacházejí ve speciálně pedagogickém prostředí. Ve výzkumu a rehabilitaci jazykových symptomů se nazývá klinickou lingvistikou. Klinická lingvistika kooperuje v multidisciplinárním kontextu s psycholingvistikou a neurolingvistikou. Práce nastiňuje potřebnost klinické lingvistiky také v českém měřítku. Je analyzována diagnóza vývojová anartrie u celoživotně nemluvících lidí s dětskou mozkovou obrnou. Vývojová anartrie je dosti častou diagnózou ve speciálním školství. Vyjevuje se její nedostatečný popis klinickou logopedií a potřeba její analýzy z klinicko-lingvistického hlediska. U vývojové anartrie je odhaleno druhotné narušení jazykových funkcí, sekundární dysfázie. Sekundární dysfázie u vývojové anartrie se manifestuje na všech jazykových rovinách, práce tuto manifestaci ukazuje. Inteligentní lidé s vývojovou anartrií se ocitají v situaci pozdní akvizice mateřského jazyka, který produkčně uchopují pouze ve formě psané řeči. Mají dílčí percepční obtíže. Fatální nemožnost mluvené produkce jim zapříčiňuje subvokální vnitřně řečový deficit. Je diskutován potenciál těchto lidí osvojovat jazyk v procesu pozdní akvizice, diskuze je uvedena v kontextu světového výzkumu o otázkách maturace a kritických period....
