Samšuková, Iveta ; Vořechovská, Dita (advisor) ; Muchnová, Dagmar (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with the linguistic field of semantics and with the semantic shifts which are illustrated on the selected words of the Ancient Greek vocabulary. The development of these words from Ancient to Modern Greek is studied. The thesis is divided into two main parts - theoretical and practical. The theoretical part deals with the history of lexical semantics and the approaches that this scientific field has brought and created. Furthermore, space is also given to the description of classification of semantic changes and of the causes and mechanisms of such changes in accordance with the results presented by linguists at the beginning of the semantic research and in the present. The practical part of the thesis deals with the semantic analysis of the three selected Greek verbs, namely δουλεύω, θεραπεύω and κηδεύω. The semantics of these verbs are compared on the basis of research in the dictionaries of Ancient, Medieval and Modern Greek. The analysis focuses mainly on two stages of the development of the Greek language, specifically on Ancient and Modern Greek. It also takes into consideration the meanings of the verbs in the Medieval Greek period. In addition, the brief etymology is stated for each verb, which uncovers the origin of the verbs and sets them in the original semantic...

Non-prototypical uses of Ancient Greek imperfect in narrative prose
Sekáčová, Kristína ; Muchnová, Dagmar (advisor) ; Pultrová, Lucie (referee)
v angličtině 1) To create brief characteristics of particular functions of the Greek imperfect based on papers from reputable scientific handbooks of the greek grammar: Rijksbaron, Smyth, Schwyzer - Debrunner, Kühner - Gerth, Duhoux, Humbert. 2) To look up the secondary literature relevant for the topic in bibliographic handbooks and databases L'année philologique, GoogleScholar, Gnomon, Buijs etc. 3) The thesis won't follow the ussual distinction between imperfect: imperfectivity and aorist: perfectivity. Contrariwise, the student's task will be to find cases which don't corespond with the standard distinction and to comment, classify and find an explanation for these non-standard occurences. The material will be excerpted from adequately extensive passage from a narrative work of the student's own choise.

Pragmatic Analysis of Vocative in Latin
Ctibor, Michal ; Pultrová, Lucie (advisor) ; Muchnová, Dagmar (referee)
The thesis presents several so far unnoticed functions of (not only) Latin vocative. It argues against previous believes that vocative is used either for addresses, calls and summons, evaluation of addressee and emphasis, or is otherwise only conventional, polite, and thus lacking any real function. Firstly, the author describes vocative from the Speech Act Theory view-point and offers definitions of speech acts call and address. In chapters 3 and 4, he pays attention to vocatives so far considered as lacking function. Relying on the analysis mostly of Cicero's speeches and old Roman comedies, he presents two crucial functions of vocative in non-initial position in a text: 1) vocative as a mean of cohesion which helps to make the organization of the text more transparent and which emphasizes the structure of the text; 2) vocative of assurance/guarantee. In chapter 5, several minor functions of vocative are mentioned (mostly of pragmatic character): triumphal vocative, vocative as a disgrace and vocative as a parody. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
