This doctoral thesis deals with the suppression of the old Society of Jesus and its consequences. While the Czech historiography has either marginalised or approached the issue of the status of religious order in the early modern society rather schematically, focusing on pure facts and figures, this dissertation attempts to overcome this methodological inadequacy by employing the "theory of practice" introduced by Pierre Bourdieu, a French sociologist and anthropologist.
