Changes in the French language policy in relation to regional languages
Miškovská, Veronika ; Perottino, Michel (advisor) ; Miklošová, Kateřina (referee)
This thesis treats the subject of French language policy for regional languages. Even though the position of French as the only official language of French state is undeniable the question of regional languages and its support is still a topical problem of French society. The evolution of French language policy for regional languages is the main subject of this thesis as well as all elements that have been influencing it. One part of this language policy is the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages, which France signed in 1999 but remains unratified. Despite the flexibility of commitments deriving from the Charter ratification of this document remains to be seen as a menace for the roots of the French republic . Therefore France can't/doesn't want to ratify the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages. This thesis analyses main obstacles for ratification of the treaty which is especially important for its strong symbolic meaning. These obstacles are defined as juridical, ideological and political.

Jouve, Thomas David ; Perottino, Michel (advisor) ; Miklošová, Kateřina (referee)
The Diploma thesis "France and the Enlargement of the European Union to Central and Eastern European Countries from François Mitterrand to Nicolas Sarkozy: A continuation or renunciation of the French concept of European integration?" attempts to evaluate to what extent constituent elements of the French concept of European integration has been modified by the expansion to Central and Eastern European countries (CEE) in May, 2004 and January, 2007. The first part delves into the interests which the French commitment was based on in the European integration and the process which led France, in 1993, to accept, along with the other member states, the objective of the membership of the CEE countries. We then shift our focus to the period prior to the enlargement (1993-2004), the necessity for France to adapt itself, from an economic and European institution point of view, to the planned future configuration of the European Union as well as the internal debates (in Parliament) leading up to May, 2004, because they reveal the perceived stakes, for France, in this enlargement. Finally, the study of the strong French lines during the period commencing with the 2004 enlargement to the start of Nicolas Sarkozy's presidency, of the parliamentary debates and first balance sheets of the enlargement to the CEE countries...

Pártlová, Andrea ; Kasáková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Miklošová, Kateřina (referee)
Bachelor thesis "European Referendums and the Kingdom of Sweden" deals with the specific relationship of Sweden towards the process of the European integration. Time frame extends from the second half of the 20th century until 2009. I aim to name the values recognized as traditional by the Swedish society and to depict the changes they went through during the post cold war period. Through the analysis of historical, social and political factors that influenced the results of both European referendums that took place in Sweden in this dynamic period I get to answers to the following questions: whether the Swedish society is persuaded that the membership of its country in the European Union is advantageous for it and what is the reason for its ambivalent view of the EU.
President Jacques Chirac, military policy and Africa: continuity, development, change?
Lopuchovský, Štěpán ; Perottino, Michel (advisor) ; Miklošová, Kateřina (referee)
There has been a significant evolution in the French African policy during the presidency of Jacques Chirac. Reasons for this must be searched in the Rwandan Civil War and the genocide of 1994 which showed that Paris did not understand the political evolution in Africa. This fact was only confirmed by two crisis in Ivory Coast in 1999 and 2002. This is why the French launched the RECAMP military program. It was no more thinkable for Paris to be kept alone in a military trap in Africa. Moreover, it was necessary to change state/regime perception. Paris neither could nor wanted to be held responsible for the security of African regimes that were by power. Therefore, France started to depersonalize its African policy. Stability of the African states assured by the Africans, not the security of the African regimes assured by Paris was the goal. This shift enabled the French to have more flexible African policy. Nevertheless, they did not withdraw from Africa. Military interventions were regarded as a source of credibility both for France and for the European Union.

The process of approving the Lisbon Treaty and its reflection in the French and Czech press
Janovská, Klára ; Rovná, Lenka (advisor) ; Miklošová, Kateřina (referee)
Diploma thesis The Approval process of the Lisbon Treaty and its reflection in French and Czech press deals with problematic two-year course of its ratification and with reflection of the accompanying events in the chosen journals. Together with continuing increase of European Union (hereinafter "EU") member states, the EU heads had to react on challenges brought by such expansion. Therefore it resulted in elaboration of so called Lisbon Treaty (hereinafter "the Treaty") that had been meant to replace the Treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe rejected by the France and the Netherlands in referendum in 2005. This new document has reformed the European institutions and has expanded the EU's sphere of influence. The process of ratification that followed in the member states after signing of the Treaty has not occurred without difficulties. Germany and the Czech Republic challenged the Treaty before the constitutional courts and Ireland rejected it in the referendum. Despite all obstacles the process has finally been finished and the Treaty came into force as of December 1, 2009. During the whole two-year period Czech and French press monitored the events related to the mentioned document. The thesis tries to answer the following questions based on the analysis of the articles that appeared in...
