Hemodynamic modelling in the calf — A pilot study

With increasing age, the cardiovascular system loses its efficiency. The goal of this work was to investigate the hemodynamic system response to a head-up tilt test in two groups of different aged people. We used a model for describing this response in the right calf based on a non-invasive, non-occlusive, bioimpedance signal measurement technique. A decrease in the bioimpedance value in the calf during the head-up tilt test is associated with the accumulation of blood in the calf, which can be expressed by a model parameter. Subjects were examined in both a head-up tilt test and a supine position. 50 healthy non-smoking volunteers were divided into two groups according to age. The impedance signal during the tilt test for each subject was fitted by a model exponential function: Z0 model EF(t) =A exp(-t/B)+C, where Z0 model EF(t) is the calculated model of electrical impedance in the calf by an exponential function, A is the amplitude of impedance change, B is the time constant of the impedance decrease, C is the value of the steady state after the tilt test and t denotes time. A lower time constant B shows a faster filling of the vascular system in the investigated part. The Mann-Whitney test (p-value<;0.005) revealed that the time constant B for the older group was significantly lower than for the young group (145.24+/- 80.28 vs. 239.23+/-136.59 sec.). A lower time constant value means a faster response to blood filling in the lower limbs and directly reflects decreased vessel elasticity. This time constant was lower in the older group. The results show increased vessel stiffness in old age and could lead to a non-invasive evaluating the cardiovascular system state.
Human Enenhancement - Ethical Problems of Enhancing Human Being
Langer, Peter ; Ovečka, Libor (advisor) ; Matějek, Jaromír (referee)
The Diploma Thesis aspires to systematically map on of the contemporary highly pressing problems - so-called human enhancement. New biotechnologies enable manipulation with our genetic and neural system and thus open posibility of radical interference with human nature. This of course brings up many ethical questions which we will try to capture and reflect upon afterwards. First we will describe the term "enhancement" and show what problems are connected with attempts to define it. Then we will analyze area of radical enhancement and ethical questions arising with transgressing the species boundaries of humans. Finally we will focus on moderate enhancement and problems linked to autenticity. The goal of this Thesis is comprehensive introduction to the topic.
Valuation of industrial real estate
Langer, Petr ; Dušek, David (advisor) ; Šrytr, Pavel (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to explain the operation of the industrial market and the procedure for their valuation. The main objective is the comparison of Czech and international RICS standards and their practical application in the valuation of two concrete industrial estate. The first valuation is based on the Czech legislation and it is used the cost, comparative and DCF method together with the residual method. Valuation of the prime real estate valuation is based on international RICS standards are it is applied Hardcore & Layer and Term & Reversion valuation methods.
Strategic and financial analysis of Green Ways s.r.o.
Langer, Petr ; Bobek, Michal (advisor) ; Marek, Petr (referee)
This thesis deals with strategic and financial analysis of the compamy Green Ways s.r.o. It is divided into three parts. The first theoretical part focuses on the methodology of implementation of both analyzes. The following section is dedicated to strategic analysis. The author deals with internal and external potential of the company. This part ends with a SWOT analysis. In the financial analysis author deals with the company's financial results between 2008 and 2010. The first part is based on horizontal and vertical analysis of financial statements. The second part is focusing on financial performance and stability of the company. Financial analysis ends with comparison with the competition. The conclusion summarizes the results and assessed the company's future prospects.
