Engine Cycle Design for Plug-in Hybrid
Koutník, Štěpán ; Kudláček, Petr (referee) ; Novotný, Pavel (advisor)
The content of this thesis is analysis of energy flows of the propulsion system in plug-in hybrid utility vehicle. Theoretical part of the thesis deals with electrically assisted turbochargers, which can positively influence engine characteristics. The following part analyses given diesel engine and utility vehicle in simulations in GT-Suite software, with simulations being performed on WLTC driving cycle. The results of the simulations demonstrate the relation between the usage of electrical and fuel energies and the driving cycle and show the engine operation points. By using optimal battery capacity, it is possible to save according to driving cycle more than 50 % energy consumed by the engine, directly influencing the fuel consumption. The results are possible to use as a guidance for moving the engine operation points and for sizing of the battery pack of hybrid utility vehicle according to real life application.
Steam Engine
Koutník, Štěpán ; Nedoma, Jiří (referee) ; Kaplan, Zdeněk (advisor)
The thesis focuses on a steam engine. At first the thesis describes its historical evolution, applications and parts. Consequently, the thermodynamic cycle of the steam engine is analysed. The second part deals with modern applications of the steam engine in automotive industry and others.

Flute Chamber Music and Concertante pieces by Jiří Teml
Jarkovská, Jana ; KOUTNÍK, Štěpán (advisor) ; Kunt, Václav (referee)
This dissertation deals with flute works by the Czech composer Jiří Teml. It takes into account the complete list including the information about their premieres and recordings. The opening chapter offers an insight into the composer‘s biography connected with his complete works‘ overview. The crucial section of the text is dedicated to the extramusical inspiration of Jiří Teml and its impact on the interpretative approach to his music. Jiří Teml likes the non-musical fields of art and he often reflects them in his own creative process. The Titles of a great number of his compositions (Commedia dell’arte, Pantomime, Hommage à Michelangelo, Kafka…) find their origin from the domain of fine arts, theatre or literature. The composer himself admits that the extramusical content is crucial for him and his art. The author of this text asks whether and how this phenomenon can influence the interpretation of Teml‘s music. This dissertation is methodologically based on the personal interviews of the author with the composer Jiří Teml and on her personal artistic experience.
Methodology of woodwind quintet´s work
Javůrek, Jiří ; KOUTNÍK, Štěpán (advisor) ; MAREŠ, Vlastimil (referee)
This Master thesis describes the functioning of a wind quintet: it's succesful foundation and choosing the right coplayers, efficient ways of rehearsing and preparation for a concert, competition or redording. The thesis suggest detailed day schedule of the preparation and rehearsals and shows how to work efficiently in different stages of the ensemble development. The thesis treats thoroughly the choice of appropriate repertoir pieces, which are organised according the technical difficulty. It evaluates the improtance of Czech ensembles Prague Wind Quintet and the Afflatus Quintet and enlists the practical experience of their members.
Multigenre pieces for flute composed by Mike Mower
Juričová, Jana ; VÁLEK, Jiří (advisor) ; KOUTNÍK, Štěpán (referee)
The bachelor's thesis follows the life of Mike Mower, a British flutist and a multigenre composer, and analyses his pieces written for the flute. Mower's work is strongly influenced by popular music, therefore, the author included a larger chapter about the history of the flute as a fully fledged instrument used in jazz music. Moreover, this chapter covers also various jazz genres and important jazz musicians. In the second part, the author examines Mower's concertos for flute (concertos, sonatas, suites, solo pieces).

R.Wagner: Siegfried and Götterdämmerung ( the Twilight of the God )
Pařík, Jan ; Hlaváč, Jiří (advisor) ; Mareš, Vlastimil (referee) ; Koutník, Štěpán (referee)
The subject matter of my diploma thesis ?R. Wagner: Siegfried and Götterdämmerung ? the clarinet?s orchestral role? is dedicated to the second and the third evenings of the tetralogy, The Ring of Nibelung. At the same time I will connect this work to my bachelor diploma thesis ? R. Wagner: Die Walküre - the clarinet?s orchestral role?. A description of the clarinet parts by themselves is not so easy; however I have now had a chance to work more closely with them and to actually play them in performance. In my thesis, I would like to discuss the leitmotifs played by the clarinet, as well as the problems and difficulty of the clarinet parts. Most of these difficulties are in the part of the first clarinet, but also in the interplay (co-ordination) between the first and the second clarinet. That is why the analysis of some of the leitmotifs is specialized for the second act of Siegfried and the first act of the Götterdämmerung. One of the difficulties of these parts is the duration of each act, as they are very taxing physically. The second difficulty is the intonation, not only between the clarinets, but also within the whole orchestra. The third problem is the expression, and how to play the individual leitmotifs stylistically. I would like to express thanks to Mr. John Fiore, who prepared these operas with the orchestra of the National Theater and taught us everything about the RING. He is a great conductor.
Prominent female musicians in development of clarinet playing
Pelikánová, Milena ; Hlaváč, Jiří (advisor) ; Mareš, Vlastimil (referee) ; Koutník, Štěpán (referee)
Today there is common phenomenon to see a female working in various and typically male jobs and also music is not any exception. Later we wasn?t able to associate a female playing for example the brass as flute, oboe, clarinet, fagot, trumpet, horn, tube or trombone. Now the situation is absolutely the other. Nowadays females have possibility to success not only thanks to development of instruments in the brass music, but also by a general social development.
