Negotiating municipalities-industrial factory wastewater treatment coalition project: an economic laboratory experiment
Šauer, Petr ; Kolínský, Ondřej ; Prášek, Jan
It is often the case that municipalities and industrial plants treat their wastewater separately bringing the municipalities wastewater to be treated at the industrial wastewater treatment plant and reused by the plant creates potential for social costs saving for both the municipalities and the private firm. In an economic laboratory experiment we demonstrate that such voluntary agreement could be achieved even despite the presence of information asymmetry. This follows our previous research on win-win voluntary agreements and the role of information asymmetry. The biggest challenge remaining to be addressed is the distribution of the extra cake, which in our results is mostly seized by the private firm.

Paradoxes of liberal liberty: revision of the classical assumptions of freedom
Kolínský, Ondřej ; Mlčoch, Lubomír (advisor) ; Skuhrovec, Jiří (referee)
Current criticism of liberalism is usually based on ad hoc economic and social arguments. In this bachelor thesis, on the contrary, we seek to verify to what extent the very core of the classical liberal doctrine is consistent with the findings of modern economics. In the first part, we examine the writings of the fathers of economic liberalism; Jeremy Bentham, John Stuart Mill and Friedrich August von Hayek. On their grounds, we describe and specify the type of liberty this paper is concerned with. Also, we show what beliefs these philosophers held regarding the question of human rationality. In the second part, we provide some philosophical background to the question of freedom and explain how it is interconnected with rationality. Finally, in the third part, we draw some empirical findings from behavioral economics, which aims at explaining the disparity between preferences and actual decisions of people. By contrasting these discoveries with the original liberal ideas, we are able to identify specific points, where the classical theorists incline to misleading beliefs. The aim of this paper is to assess how grave the implications of these errors are and how they could be addressed within the framework of liberalism. We also estimate their impact on the market interaction and examine possible...
More Women into Politics: Civil Society Activities in the Czech Republic
Dušková, Štěpánka ; Dvořáková, Vladimíra (advisor) ; Kolínský, Ondřej (referee)
The master's thesis deals with the role civil society plays in the process of introducing more women into politics. Women are significantly underrepresented in the Czech politics. This situation can be changed by adopting measures to support women in politics. These measures must either be voluntarily adopted by political parties or regulated by law. In order for political parties to recognize the necessity of such measures, they must be pressured by the voters. That is why nongovernmental organizations' activity is needed, as they are able to push interests through and they can inform public as well as cooperate with other subjects in order to achieve their goals. An example of such an organization is the organization Fórum 50 %, whose activities are subject to an analysis in this thesis. The master's thesis is divided into four chapters. The first part of the thesis covers the civil society and interest representation in theory. The second chapter is concerned with the concept of women's political representation, presents statistics of the number of women in Czech politics, identifies the main barriers that prevent women from political participation and introduces the instruments that can help regulate the amount of women in politics. The third chapter depicts female-oriented nongovernmental organizations in the Czech Republic after 1989 and the women's movement development. The last chapter focuses on the analysis of activities of the organization Fórum 50 %.
