Animated works and education

This postgraduate thesis deals with the relationship between animated works and education. Main importance is given to the prior historical trends of educational animated works and to the question if are the animated works suitable for educational purposes. The thesis is divided to four chapters. First chapter depicts the historical development of educational animated works and briefly maps this area of animation. Second chapter analyzes specific characteristics of animation and abilities of its means of expression for educational use. Third chapter is a brief introduction to the cognitive psychology which offers valuable knowledge about functions of human mind. The center of attention is focused on attributes of human memory and process of learning, which are somehow related to the usage of animation. Fourth chapter sort of expands the third chapter and bases its conclusions on the work of American psychologist Richard E. Mayer. The subject matter are more practical ways how to use animation to enhance effective learning.
A family animation film as a phenomen of today

This work follows a family animation feature film. A reader will know sequencial progression of a family animation film from history to recent years. He will meet the first family films in the world and in the Czech Republic. I will mention a family television production too. There will be a psychologist opinion and what a human likes in his age. I hope this work will useful for everyone who wants to know more about that theme.
Gag and Slapstick in Czech Cartoon

The purpose of this work is to explain and formulate the origin, structure and development of a gag using concrete examples of the Czech animated production. A necessary component is an animated cartoon containing these gags, its structural elements based on contrasts, conflicts of characters and metaphor. Genesis of cartoon and gag, their main and supplemental elements (laughter, personality of the characters), history up to the present concrete animated production.
Bedřich Glaser: animator, director, artist

This study describes three points of view of artist Bedrich Glazer. One is about Bedrich Glaser in a role af an animator and close colaborator of Jan Svankmajer. Second one descries him as a director of his own short films. Third, the last one point of view, introduces Bedrich as a painter. This study intends to briefly familiarize a reader with artist?s life, his life-work and with his opinions. Chapters are in chronologic sequence, so we can follow develepement of this artistic personality. Partially it considers his sources of an ispiration and his motives. But above all, this study tryes to bring this complex personality to the public, to which it is probably quite unknown.
