Comparison of approaches to the conservation of modern architecture in the context of contemporary ideological influences
Pilařová, Zdislava ; Indrová, Martina (advisor) ; Jordánová, Květa (referee)
The thesis focuses on the comparison of two approaches to the protection of modern architectural cultural heritage. The first approach is the protection of the First Republic, especially functionalist buildings, which began with the first culture heritage law No. 22/1958 Coll. The second approach is devoted to the contemporary challengers of protecting buildings from the socialist era in the context of reflecting the past that the buildings may represent. Both approaches are related to the issue of the subjectivity and ideological conditionality of heritage protection. The research is set in the context of the development of architecture since the 1920s, the development of heritage protection, and the context of reflecting the past. The fate of selected monuments that have become central points to the change of narrative is also discussed. The thesis employs a method of qualitative analysis of information obtained from the contemporary literature and the National Heritage Institute's web platform Památkový katalog, followed by a comparison of approaches to the conservation of buildings in the style of functionalism and buildings from the socialist era. The thesis tries to connect several themes - the development of functionalist architecture and architecture from the socialist era, the development...
(Beyond) borders of castellanship: who, why and with what limitations
Kopecká, Damaris ; Jareš, Jakub (advisor) ; Indrová, Martina (referee)
The thesis aims to provide a holistic insight into the praxis of castellanship, with the focus on its role and objective under today's management by the National Heritage Institute (NHI). The theoretical chapters consist of origins and development of the profession, where we delve into the official documents of the NHI, as well as the perception of the general public. To create a whole view of the castellanship praxis aligned with our goal, we undergo a series of eight semi-scripted interviews with castellans. These interviews should reveal the precise description of the praxis in its current form. With this knowledge, we uncover a differentiation between the theoretical assumptions and the reality of the castellanship praxis inside the sites managed by the NHI. Through the interviews we then verify three separate research hypotheses, which aim to formalize the problems and hardships encountered in the castellan's work. In the last chapter, results of this research are interpretted with the focus on their practical application, along with their possible effects on future developments of the praxis of castellanship. Aside from its main goal, this thesis also has an ambition to define areas (risks, missed opportunities, blank spots) which limit the current state of the castellanship praxis, while...

This bachelor thesis aims at inquiring into the development of Žleby Chateau after its nationalisation from the house of Trauttmansdorff-Weinsberg, which was based on Edvard Beneš' presidental decrees. Because of that, the analysis is aditionally aspiring to provide a brief comparison of NKK's work at Žleby and Hrádek u Nechanic. The comparative method supplements archival research which presents the main cornerstone of this thesis. To cover the subject matter also suggests a close collaboration with today's administrations of both sites in question. The documents found within this method provide evidence about the management of the castle by the National Cultural Commission. Specifically, they concern the relocation of various pieces of furniture, but they also address the transportations that were stored at Žleby. The work simultaneously observes the transformation of the castle on two levels - both regional...
