The role of dietitian in education of patients with histamine intolerance
Erban, David ; Humlová, Zuzana (advisor) ; Meisnerová, Eva (referee)
Aim of thesis: The aim of the research was to evaluate whether individual education by a clinical dietitian has a positive effect on the overall treatment of patients suffering from histamine intolerance. Methods: Eighteen patients with histamine intolerance attending the allergy outpatient clinic of the Department of Immunology and Microbiology of 1st Medical Faculty and General University Hospital in Prague were selected for the study. All eighteen of them completed the study. Before education, the patients filled in a questionnaire and blood was taken for subsequent analysis. This was followed by an approximately one-hour consultation with a clinical dietitian, from which each patient also received an individually created output. Patients also had the opportunity to contact the clinical dietitian with any questions via email. After three months, the patients again completed the questionnaire and blood was drawn again for subsequent analysis. Based on this information, it was compared whether or not the patients with histamine intolerance had improved their clinical symptoms and quality of life due to education by the clinical dietitian. Three respondents developed the acute respiratory disease at the beginning of the study, so it was not possible to collect blood from them before education. In...
Histamine intolerance
Draberová, Hana ; Humlová, Zuzana (advisor) ; Meisnerová, Eva (referee)
This bachelor's thesis deals with the topic of histamine intolerance (HIT). HIT is primarily caused by decreased activity of the enzyme diamine oxidase (DAO) which breaks down histamine. The accumulation of histamine in the human body can manifest itself with the wide range of symptoms. The most common symptoms include digestive problems, skin problems, and headaches. The symptoms of HIT are often similar to an allergic reaction, so making a correct diagnosis can be difficult. An elimination diet is recommended to relieve the symptoms. The basis of the elimination diet is to exclude food that increases the histamine level in the body. The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical parts. The theoretical part of the thesis summarizes the current knowledge about histamine intolerance and elimination diet. The practical part is focused on the mapping of the current situation in adult patients with diagnosed HIT. The research data were obtained from a questionnaire survey, which took place in the allergological clinic and on social networks. The research group consisted of one hundred and fifty-four respondents. The data showed that respondents who got HIT information from their physicians were more aware of HIT than those who gained knowledge from other patients with HIT. Most respondents who...
Importance of micronutrients in patients with celiac disease
Dolanská, Pavla ; Humlová, Zuzana (advisor) ; Meisnerová, Eva (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the issue of celiac disease with a focus on the importance of micronutrients in treatment and clinical monitoring of patients with celiac disease. The thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. The theoretical part is divided into two chapters. The first chapter deals with celiac disease in general - history, epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical classification, clinical manifestations, diagnostics and complications of celiac disease. Procedures for clinical monitoring of patients with celiac disease are also discussed. Last but not least, cereal proteins are analysed with a focus on gluten and its importance in the pathogenesis of celiac disease. The second chapter describes gluten-free diet as the only available possibility how to treat celiac disease. Furthermore, the pitfalls of the gluten-free diet and its possible nutritional imbalances associated with a gluten-free diet. The issue of gluten-free products is discussed, both in terms of legislation and in terms of selecting suitable foods. The possibilities of supplementation of micronutrients in celiac and other investigated possibilities of treatment of celiac disease outside the gluten-free diet are also mentioned. The practical part of this diploma thesis has two main goals. The first goal is...
Issues relating to nutrition in patients with atopic dermatitis
Krejčí, Lenka ; Humlová, Zuzana (advisor) ; Meisnerová, Eva (referee)
This bachelor's thesis deals with issues relating to nutrition in patients with atopic dermatitis. Atopic dermatitis is a non-infectious chronic inflammatory skin disease. Its prevalence is still increasing and it can significantly affect the quality of life of patients as well as their families. The thesis is divided into two parts - theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part deals with etiology and pathogenesis of atopic dermatitis, its prevention, risk factors for its development and dietary recommendations for patients with atopic dermatitis. Other chapters of the theoretical part deal with methods of diagnosis of atopic dermatitis, epidemiology and prevalence of the disease, potential complications that can arise from atopic dermatitis, treatment principles of atopic dermatitis and principles of skin care. The main aim of the practical part is to check whether the diet of adult respondents, who are suffering from atopic dermatitis, affects clinical manifestation of atopic dermatitis and find out the proof of it. Another aim is to find out whether the extent of affected skin area is related to perception of limitations in activities of daily living caused by atopic dermatitis. The data was obtained through the questionnaire survey among patients attending the Department of Clinical...
Issues relating to lactose intolerance
Dolanská, Pavla ; Humlová, Zuzana (advisor) ; Meisnerová, Eva (referee)
This bachelor's thesis deals with issues relating to lactose intolerance and examines its influence on the quality of life of patients suffering from it. The thesis is divided into two parts. Theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part is divided into two parts. The first part deals with issues relating to lactose intolerance. The lactose intolerance is characterized on the basis of epidemiological data, its causes, the impact of genetics on its occurrence, pathophysiology, possible complications and clinical manifestations. An integral part of the thesis are methods used for its diagnosis and the possibilities of its therapy. The second part of the thesis focuses on nutritional recommendations associated with lactose intolerance. The main aim of the practical part is to map the relationship of adult patients to lactose intolerance. To find out, according to which method lactose intolerance has been diagnosed to the patients, which diagnostic method is the most common one, what is the most common time interval from patients' subjective problems to diagnosis, and how patients perceive the quality of their lives with the bounds of nutritional measures relating to lactose intolerance. The data obtained through the questionnaire survey show that the respondents do not perceive lactose...
