Paterová, Zuzana ; Hlavatá, Karolína (advisor) ; Vašíčková, Jitka (referee)
The prevalence of obesity in children and adolescents has reached pandemic proportions nowadays. Obese individuals are at risk of cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia, musculoskeletal diseases, etc. Children increasingly live a sedentary lifestyle and consume high-energy food with poor combination of nutrients. In the Czech Republic, however, there exist no comprehensive structure for the fight against child obesity and a lack of meaningful data on the prevalence of obesity in adolescent population. This work is drawn up under the project COPAT. The bachelor's thesis deals with the issue of basic nutrients and their relationship to weight, dietary recommendations for adolescents, the assessment of nutritional status, etiology of obesity and obesity-related complications. The main emphasis is placed on the practical part, which focuses on results of the research, which provides information about dietary habits and behaviour of 100 adolescents in relation to their body weight. Hlavatá, Karolína ; Hainer, Vojtěch (advisor) ; Müllerová, Dana (referee) ; Sucharda, Petr (referee)
How far will be a weight reduction successful depends on numerous factors. We focused on genetic, nutritional, hormonal and psychobehavioral factors which may significantly affect weight loss. Among nutritional factors a special attention was paid to the role of intakes of dietary calcium and n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA). In subsequent studies the predictors of weight reduction. In a pilot study (study 1) the effects of dietary calcium intake in 208 overweight or obese subjects who underwent comprehensive weight management programme on weight loss were evaluated. The results of the pilot study showed that the weight loss significantly correlated with the changes in calcium intake - with increasing calcium intake higher weight loss was achieved. In the second study we investigated the effect of various forms of calcium supplementation on anthropometric, biochemical, hormonal and psychobehavioral parameters in a cohort of 67 overweight or obese perimenopausal women. We did not find any effect of calcium intake on weight loss. However, groups with calcium supplementation exhibited smaller decline in fat-free mass (FFM) compared with the placebo group. Calcium supplemented groups also demonstrated significant reductions in hunger scores. In the studies 3, 4 and 5 predictors of weight reduction were...

Daňková, Martina ; Kytnarová, Jitka (advisor) ; Hlavatá, Karolína (referee)
Nowadays, an often discussed subject is the increasing occurrence of obesity amongst children and adolescents. However, occasionally only we can hear about the increasing level of body dissatisfaction amongst adolescents associated with dieting and unhealthy weight control behaviours and may increase the risk of developing eating disorders. The theoretical part of the thesis defines dieting, studies concrete methods of weight control behaviors and additionally examines the psychology of nutrition and eating habits. The purpose of the empirical part is to examine experiences associated with dieting and weight loss attempts amongst the Czech adolescent population (12-18 year-old), and compare them for two observed groups. The study participants comprised 151 teenagers, 50 of which came to the first outpatient examination for obesity, and the other 101 were treated with different diagnosis by the same doctor (n=58) or came from a different environment (n=43). We have employed the quantitative aspect of research which is based on questionnaire that contain questions about dieting, weight loss diets and their corresponding informational source, and the body satisfaction amongst adolescents. We have discovered that 44% respondents from the total cohort have already been engaged in dieting (dieters,...
