Agricultural Children Shelters in the Countryside between Years 1940-1960
Farová, Eliška ; Randák, Jan (advisor) ; Fapšo, Marek (referee)
(in English) This bachelor's thesis deals with a so far unexplored topic of children's agricultural shelters, which existed in the period of 1940-1960 and were located mostly in the Czechoslovakian countryside. Particular emphasis is given to the period between the years 1945-1955. The work is divided into two distinct parts. The first part deals the history of shelters and their role in preschool education is explored. The second part is concerned with various aspects and roles the shelters held, and the roles that might have been assigned to them throughout history. Great emphasis is placed on their economic and social roles. In these roles the author points out the often overlooked significant hygienical and medical aspects. The main goal of this thesis is to show the multiple functions of agricultural shelters through the perspective of social history and biopower/biopolitics and to point out the fact, that a seemingly ordinary facility can have far-reaching consequences.
