The Cult of St. George in medieval Bohemia

Submitted master thesis focuses on the cult of saint George within the context of the pre-Hussite period of Bohemia. During the 6th and 7th century, Saint's cult spread rapidly from its very centre - Palestinian Lydda, to all over Christian world of that time. After reaching Bohemia in the 10th century through the influence of the Regensburg diocese, George began to occupy a privileged position in local patronages. Saint's cult became one of the most important in 12th century. The aim of this study is, with the contribution of source heuristics and interdisciplinary analysis, to map aspects of the spread and manifestations of St. George's veneration in pre-Hussite Bohemia.
