Šilhán, Vojtěch ; Cibulková, Petra (advisor) ; Havlová, Radka (referee)
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to determine whether it is possible to apply the concept of Samuel Huntington's clash of civilizations to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The thesis is divided into two chapters. The first one deals with a summary of Huntington's publication The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order. At the end of the chapter, four premises of the validity of the clash of civilizations hypothesis are made. The second chapter deals with the analysis of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict with an emphasis on the causes of the conflict and the role of primary, secondary and tertiary actors. Subsequently, it examines whether the premises laid down in the first chapter comply with the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The thesis compares Western and Soviet approaches to creating the image of state in the Cold War period. Terms public diplomacy, propaganda and agitation are explained and the Cold War period is covered in the first section. Second chapter depicts American and British approach to the public diplomacy after WW2 and deals with Western methods and tools used to create the image of state abroad. Third section describes Soviet propaganda and its machine of the stated period and the fourth section compares and judges Western and Eastern approaches. Zaťko, Miloš ; Druláková, Radka (advisor) ; Cibulková, Petra (referee)
The Kosovo declaration of independence produced the opposite reactions over the world. The majority of western states (like the USA and the European countries) recognized the independent Kosovo. The first chapter deals just with the reaction of international community to the declaration of independence, especially the European Union. The EU is divided into two groups. The second chapter describes the resoponse of the Slovak and the Czech Republic to the independent Kosovo. The question is, why these two countries that have so much in common (e.g. the common existence in the Czechoslovakia) took the different position. The aim of this study is to uncover the reasons that could explain the different position. The last chapter concerns with the analysis and the appraisal of possible reasons of opposite reaction and their mutual comparison.

Nation versus State: A Case Study of Kosovo
Kešelj, Nina ; Zemanová, Štěpánka (advisor) ; Cibulková, Petra (referee)
The bachelor thesis analyses legal and political aspects of Kosovo's secession from Republic of Serbia in attempt to determine if it is really sui generis, as it used to be claimed by the Kosovo's independence supporters. The theoretical part analyses the basic Constitutional and International Law requirements that a state is supposed to meet in order to reach international recognition. Besides, it provides a description of different forms of right of self - determination and discusses the circumstances, under which a nation would be entitled to claim a remedial secession from the home state. The empirical part examines specific circumstances of the former Yugoslavia's disintegration and the legal position of Kosovo as an autonomous province of Serbia in the period from 1974 -- 1999, in attempt to determine if Kosovo Albanians have ever had a legal entitlement to the secession from Serbia. Besides, in order to enquire whether Kosovo's secession could be considered an example of the remedial secession, the work provides a historical analysis of the Albanian-Serbian relations in Kosovo, with a highlight on the period from the Second World War on, as well as the analysis of the war crimes and alleged organ trafficking, that has recently re-emerged in the Council of Europe.
The impact of Turkish-Armenian relations on the resolution of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict
Kotásková, Tereza ; Cibulková, Petra (advisor) ; Havlová, Radka (referee)
The unsolved conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh and problematic Turkish-Armenian relations are the main sources of instability in South Caucasus. For historic and ethnic reasons, both Azerbaijan and Armenia claim the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh. Turkey closed its border with Armenia as an expression of solidarity with Azerbaijan during the Nagorno-Karabakh war in the early nineties. Azerbaijan was military defeated and Armenia took control over one fifth of the Azerbaijani territory. Signing two protocols on the normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia in 2009 raised hopes that this could have a positive impact also on the resolution of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. If the protocols were ratified, this assumption would be probably fulfilled. However, the protocols have not been ratified so far. Considering other factors, any significant progress in any of these issues cannot be expected in the near future.
Neighborly relations in the Czech and German social discourse
Petráňová, Zuzana ; Zemanová, Štěpánka (advisor) ; Cibulková, Petra (referee)
Even nowadays, many key negotiations between the Czech Republic and Germany are being complicated by the two possible perspectives on the interpretation of certain moments in common history and of several legal acts. This paper will try to focus on the developement of relations between the Czech Republic and Germany from the ratification of the Czech-German declaration in 1997 to the year 2007. Closer attention will be paid to an analysis of the developement of the relations after five and ten years. Because of the size of the issue I will specifically concentrate on the analysis of the media discursus of the "Hospodářské noviny" journal and the "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung" journal. The goal of this resarch is to find out how did the relationships change in the ten year period from the ratification of the Czech-German declaration and if the problems came to an end. The analysis shows that the declaration didn't lead directly to overcoming the problems. The difficulties of the past are still emerging from time to time. From this we can anticipate their continuous reappearances even in the future and assume that it will take a long time for the situation to become absolutely calm.
