Fireworks as another unnecessary source of pollution not only in times of energy and climate crisis

The energy crisis caused by the war in Ukraine has forced most European countries to look for energy sources other than oil and gas from Russia. As a result of that situation, energy sources that pollute the environment with harmful substances have often been restarted. Energy independence on Russia required not only the commissioning of these energy sources, but also deepened the economic crisis that many countries faced after the COVID-19 pandemic. Nevertheless, European countries and their residents have not yet given up on expensive fireworks shows, which release a lot of greenhouse gases and other harmful substances into the atmosphere. The contribution aims to evaluate the current issue of the use of fireworks from an environmental and economic point of view, to further evaluate the existing legislation and to outline the possibilities of limiting the use of fireworks in the Czech Republic through legal measures, with the simultaneous use of a comparison of the existing legislation in Germany, France, Luxembourg and the USA.

The role and status of court interpreters in France

This theoretical-empirical diploma thesis addresses the role and position of court interpreters in France and is divided into two parts. The theoretical part consists of two sections. The first focuses on professional literature on court interpreting and, marginally, court translation. The second section deals with court interpreting and translation in France, comparing selected aspects to the situation in the Czech Republic. The topic is introduced by way of a short outline of the history of court translation and interpreting in France. The empirical part is presented as a complementary quantitative study. Participants in the survey were court interpreters cooperating with courts of appeal in France whose working languages are Czech and French. The aim of the empirical part was to specify certain vague regulations that define the conditions for the appointment of court interpreters, proving of professional experience that the interpreter has gained over a three-year trial period, the number and form of training courses that the interpreter must attend. The diploma thesis entitled the Interpreting Act focuses on the legislation on court translation and interpreting in the Czech Republic. The paper aims to compare the new statutes under the Court Translators and Interpreters Act (No 354/2019 Coll.) with the current Experts and Interpreters Act (No 36/1967 Coll.). The first part of the thesis acquaints readers with the profession of court interpreters and translators. It renders the description of both professions by defining basic terms of the areas of translating and interpreting, explaining the types of translation and interpreting, and providing a list of professional organisations for court translators and interpreters in the Czech Republic. The second part of the paper deals with international and Czech legislation regarding the right for interpreting and translation, briefly outlining the progress of the legislation on court interpreting and translation and giving reasons for the adoption of the rules on the activity of court translators and interpreters. The third, key part of the paper presents the analysis of some parts of the Act No 354/2019 Coll. and their comparison to the Act No 36/1967 Coll. This bachelor thesis consists of two main parts. The first part, the translation, focuses on the selected chapters from the French book L'essentiel des Institutions de l'Union europeenne from Jean-Claude Zarka who publishes books about politics and institutions of the European Union. The second part is a subsequent commentary. The aim of this thesis is to make a functionally equivalent translation. This is followed by a commentary that consists of a translational analysis, several translation methods and procedures, a number of translational shifts, and solutions to a series of translation problems.
