Usability of Extraction Techniques for Practical Applications.
Rousková, Milena ; Šabata, Stanislav ; Maléterová, Ywetta ; Hanika, Jiří ; Šolcová, Olga ; Stránská, M. ; Kaštánek, P. ; Bárnet, M. ; Svátek, A.
The aim of the study was the development of extraction procedures for the isolation of carotenoids, especially lutein, from medicinal plants (Calendula officinalis, Tagetes sp.), the obtaining of fragrances from Magnolia × pruhoniciana blooms, or the separation of waxes from Miscanthus sp. stalks.\n

Alternate crop: maral root (Rhaponticum carthamoides (Willd.) Iljin) Cultivation, significance, and use in plant protection
Bárnet, M. ; Pavela, R. ; Pilař, M. ; Mráz, J. ; Pluhař, P. ; Vosátka, Miroslav
Certified methodic provides in depth information on cultivation technology, processing and use of maral root in the conditions of the Czech Republic. Both new research findings and practical recommendation for production of biologically active compounds are included in the publication. The methodic also describes utilization of the plant for the production of a biopesticide.
Waxes and Lipids Extraction from Miscanthus Giganteus Stems.
Rousková, Milena ; Šolcová, Olga ; Kaštánek, František ; Bárnet, M. ; Svátek, A. ; Stránská, M. ; Hanika, Jiří
In the framework of the project BIORAF, supported by Technology Agency CR (project no. TE01020080), plantations for experimental production of Miscanthus × giganteus and Miscanthus sinensis have been founded by the project partner AGRA Co. Tall stems of this plant contain a broad spectrum of various substances (waxes, lipids, carotenoids, etc.) being potentially exploitable in cosmetics.Extraction processing of crushed dry stems using non-polar solvent is a promising way for separation of these substances into an extract, whereas the waste raffinate containing waste biomass has, after being pressed into the form of pellets, the potential for energetic utilization as green fuel.\n

Jerusalem Artichokes - a Source of Valuable Nutrients

Report for the Project Optimization of Supercritical Fluid Extraction for Maximal Yield of Biologically Active Substances from Plants
Sovová, Helena ; Sajfrtová, Marie ; Pavela, R. ; Karban, Jindřich ; Bárnet, M.
Savory, caraway, peppermint, lavander and ruta were selected out of more than twenty plants as the best resources of biologically active substances soluble in supercritical CO2 and effective against pest insect. Lethal doses and antifeedant activity of plant extracts against four model insect species were evaluated. Chemical composition of isolates was determined using GC and GC-MS. Two novel methods were used to examine relation between the composition and the acute toxicity of isolates.
