Usability of Extraction Techniques for Practical Applications.
Rousková, Milena ; Šabata, Stanislav ; Maléterová, Ywetta ; Hanika, Jiří ; Šolcová, Olga ; Stránská, M. ; Kaštánek, P. ; Bárnet, M. ; Svátek, A.
The aim of the study was the development of extraction procedures for the isolation of carotenoids, especially lutein, from medicinal plants (Calendula officinalis, Tagetes sp.), the obtaining of fragrances from Magnolia × pruhoniciana blooms, or the separation of waxes from Miscanthus sp. stalks.\n

Volatile Substances Determination in Magnolia x Pruhoniciana Extracts.
Rousková, Milena ; Šabata, Stanislav ; Maléterová, Ywetta ; Hradecký, J. ; Hanika, Jiří ; Kaštánek, František ; Šolcová, Olga
Magnolia pruhoniciana is a unique hybrid originated by the crossing of Japanese M. obovata and American M. tripetala. It has been cultivated and grown since the 1950s in the Průhonice park, part of the Institute of Botany of the CAS. However, biologically active substances contained in intensely fragrant blossoms have not been\nsufficiently described, yet. From that reason the research was focused on extraction of the volatile substances from fresh blossoms using various solvents. Samples of magnolia blossom extracts revealed variously rich profiles of volatile substances, depending on the extraction agent used. To obtain information on volatile substances the analytical method GC/HRMS was employed. Magnolia extracts contained a large number of valuable substances such as alkaloids, coumarins, flavonoids, lignans and neolignans, phenyl-propanoids and terpenes have been identified. Obtained extracts possessed a typical magnolia fragrance, which confirmed that the obtained products could be potentially used for cosmetic applications.

A Pilot-Plant Continuous Process for the Production of Biodiesel.
Hanika, Jiří ; Kaštánek, František ; Kaštánek, P. ; Maléterová, Ywetta ; Kronusová, O. ; Šolcová, Olga
On the basis of laboratory tests of the enzymatic Transesterification of different types of lipids and oils in a batch by using immobilized lipase arrangement, as in the continuous arrangement on the pilot apparatus, consisting of a cascade of two CSTRs with immobilized enzyme and two phases separators, functional samples have been prepared and tested in a pilot scale for application as additive to biodiesel.

Transport Biofuels and Their Perspectives.
Kaštánek, František ; Maléterová, Ywetta ; Hanika, Jiří ; Kaštánek, P. ; Šolcová, Olga
There are discussed already applied procedures or procedures verified in pilot scale and only in laboratory scale. Essentially, transport biofuel technologies can be considered: Hydrolysis and fermentation of lignocelluloses to lower alcohols, transesterification of oils, production of liquid biomass pyrolysis product, so called bio-oil as the main product in addition to bio-coal and pyrolysis gases, gasification to produce synthesis gas followed by catalytic production of gasoline and naphtha hydrocarbons\n(Fischer-Tropsch synthesis), transformation of a system of chemical compounds obtained from bio-oil into hydrocarbons by catalytic hydro deoxygenation and /or hydrocarbons obtained directly from the biomass by catalytic hydro deoxygenation.

Fatty Acids Profile Analysis in Fresh Suspension of Japonochytrium Sp.
Rousková, Milena ; Maléterová, Ywetta ; Hůrková, K. ; Kaštánek, P. ; Hanika, Jiří ; Šolcová, Olga
The study is focused on concentration of a lipid content and determination of the extractable part oriented on included fatty acids in separated phases of centrifuged wet biomass. The main attention was focused on the DHA concentration from the upper lipid layer, containing obviously concentrated proportion of fatty acids. Water fungi suspension was submitted to centrifugation with subsequent separation of individual liquid/solid fractions and extracted by two solvent systems. Dichloromethane/methanol 1/1 and 1-hexane/ethanol 2/3 was applied. Both solvent systems afforded comparable fatty acids profiles. Dominant acids C16:0 (in the range of 43-47%) and DHA C22:6n3 (43-47%) were detected. Biomass residue can be applied e. g. as an animal food supplement due to high protein content. Also level of pigments with antioxidant effect, particularly carotenoids, can be dietary significant.
