The influence of the Taiwan's democratization on the cross-strait relations and on the prospect for completion of the Chinese unification
Lenhart, Erik ; Romancov, Michael (advisor) ; Andělová, Petra (referee)
In my master thesis I analyze the influence of Taiwan's democratization on Cross- Strait relations. The thesis is structurally divided into three main periods: the pre- democratization period, democratization period and the period since the first power alternation in Taiwan. The first chapter analyzes the emergence of the Cross-Strait issue, the period of the Japanese colonization, the Post-Second World War Period, the Chinese Civil War and Cold War period until second half 80s. It points out the main external and internal factors, which influenced the Cross- Strait relations development and also the development of both Chinese states. The subject of the second chapter is the Taiwan's democratization and its internal and external leverage. Based on A. Przeworski's Theory of Games I am comparing the Taiwan's democratization to the Tiananmen incident. At the end of the second chapter I am comparing political system and regime of both Chinese states and I am pointing out salience of Taiwan for China. The final chapter examines the period of the first power alternation in Taiwan and how it influenced the Cross- Strait relations. It analyzes the issue of Taiwanese identity and sovereignty. It points out the three most common sovereignty interpretations over Taiwan. This chapter also entails an analysis...

Petrtýl, Martin ; Hnízdo, Bořivoj (advisor) ; Kofroň, Jan (referee) ; Andělová, Petra (referee)
CHINA IN GLOBAL AND REGIONAL POLITICS IN THE 21ST CENTURY - GEOPOLITICAL CLASH WITH JAPAN, INDIA, USA, RUSSIA AND EUROPE Mgr. Martin Petrtýl Supervisor: Doc. Dr. Bořivoj Hnízdo, PhD. Institute of Political Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences This dissertation discusses the current and future role of China in the 21st century. I worked with the idea to prepare a systematically detailed analytical study of the country in relation to its surroundings as well as its internal environment for more than 8 years, including many interruptions. I, above all, contemplated about the way how to truly scientifically, i.e. credibly, it means in the maximum possible the limits of verifiability, develop a full work that could hold up to the colleagues from the scientific community and myself. It is logical it was and is my attempt to allow minimal possibility of any criticism of this work for its formal, content, or other deficiencies. First, I decided to analyse in some detail the currently known theoretical approaches and methods of study, not only in political sciences, especially those used by political geographers, but also in other related fields, especially in the field of study of international relations, sociology, political science or general security studies. I did not want to study the issue is the...
New Order at East Asia and Eastasian sfere of mutual prosperity
Reinisch, Martin ; Hnízdo, Bořivoj (advisor) ; Andělová, Petra (referee)
The goal of this thesis is to clarify the issues related to the New Order in East Asia and the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere. Emphasis will be added to motives which lead Japan to the creation of a new arrangement in East Asia. These motives are represented by both Japan's strategic interests, among which was the struggle for obtaining access to natural resources (such as iron ore, coal and oil), as well as the control over a certain part of Asian territory with the intention of creating a buffer zone, mainly because of fearing the Soviet Union. The effort to control the Far East was further strengthened by the Great Depression, which resulted with the creation of enclosed trade blocks. A significant source of Japanese expansionist policy was presented by the ideology of Pan-Asianism, which played a large role in Japan's foreign policy making since the second half of the1920s. Pan-Asianism had been originally focused mainly on Northeast Asia and only later was it utilized to legitimize the Japanese occupation of Southeast Asia. The thesis also pays much attention to the creation of Japanese puppet regimes, both on occupied Chinese territory and in Southeast Asia. An important role here is played by the Japanese effort to cooperate with local elites, both political and religious. Not only...
Civil Society in Non-Democratic Regime. Analysis of Civic Groups in Current Burma and Their Relation towards the End of Military Goverment
Peřinová, Marie ; Mlejnek, Josef (advisor) ; Andělová, Petra (referee)
Since 1962, Burma (Myanmar) has been under the rule of a military junta, which, through the extensive state and military apparatus, forms one of the most repressive regimes in the world today. In spite of, or rather because of the authority of the authoritarian regime, hundreds of associations with a variety of social, economic and political goals have been emerging in the country in recent years. The existence of numerous associations under authoritarian rule is a rather new phenomenon which has aroused contradictory views among observers - hopes for the formation of civil society struggling for liberalization on the one hand, and fear that the associations are just another of the regime's tools to manage people's lives on the other. On the basis of a qualitative analysis of various organizations, movements, parties and groups in current-day Burma, this thesis aims to explain that neither of the aforementioned views alone can depict the complexity of associational life under the authoritarian regime, but rather that both roles must be viewed as an intrinsic and mutually-interacting part of it. Many of the associations are apparently controlled and used by the military government for its own objectives, including the aim to preserve the regime. At the same time, there are organizations which strive to...
