The Writer and Her Critics. Czech Reflections of J. K. Rowling's Tweets about Trans People
Kolaříková, Marie ; Andrlová Fidlerová, Alena (advisor) ; Adam, Robert (referee)
This bachelor thesis focuses on the presentation of the conflict between the writer J.K. Rowling and her critics on five of the most widely read Czech online news portals, namely Novinky.cz, Lidovky.cz, Aktualne.cz, Echo24.cz, and iDNES.cz. The thesis examines the textual strategies used to communicate about trans individuals and the controversy surrounding them. The thesis employs methods derived from ethnomethodology, specifically Membership Categorization Analysis (MCA) and Media Dialogical Network (MDN). Using the MCA method, it was found that by categorizing the writer and her critics into collections of membership categories, a certain image of the situation was conveyed. The controversy was portrayed as interpersonal drama among celebrities, damage to J.K. Rowling's career, cancel culture, injecting politics into the apolitical sphere of art and culture, but only rarely as the struggle of trans people for their rights. In the analysis of texts using the MDN method, it was found that the portals, in developing the dialogic network, focus primarily on how the specific case harmed the life and career of Rowling and other artists. In the news, trans people were thus pushed into the background, with their lives and rights being only minimally addressed. Trans people in the texts become mere...
Adjectives formed from the infinitive/past verb stem by the suffix -c(í) in Old Czech and Middle Czech
Fuková, Irena ; Adam, Robert (advisor) ; Osolsobě, Klára (referee) ; Komárek, Karel (referee)
Mgr. Irena Fuková Adjektiva tvořená od infinitivního/minulého slovesného kmene příponou -c(í) v češtině staré a v češtině doby střední Adjectives formed from the infinitive/past verb stem by the suffix -c(í) in Old Czech and Middle Czech Abstract The thesis is devoted to the analysis of adjectives formed from the infinitive/past verb stem by the suffix -c(í) in Old Czech and Middle Czech. It describes the development of this word-forming subsystem in the period under study. It focuses mainly on the meanings of its units, the representation of individual word-formation categories, the question of the degree of its meaning distinction, especially in comparison with participial adjectives, and the determination of the time of its origin. Adjectives derived from the infinitive/past verb stem with the suffix -c(í) can be identified only partially on the basis of their form in Old Czech sources, since due to ambiguous writing and ongoing spelling changes they merge in some cases with participial adjectives or adjectives ending in - č(í). Therefore, the aim of this thesis is also to reconstruct the supposed system of adjectives derived by the suffix -c(í) in the Old Czech and Middle Czech period. The fact of partial formal ambiguity of the type of adjectives under study implies a basic procedure for the analysis...
Gradation of tasks within Czech language lessons in primary schools
Binderová, Tereza ; Šormová, Kateřina (advisor) ; Adam, Robert (referee)
The presented work explores the ways in which individualization and differentiation of students at the elementary school level can be approached. It examines the use of a grading parameter on the success of solving educational tasks with identical educational objectives - using the example of counterfactual conditional clauses. The first, theoretical part summarizes findings from pedagogical, general didactic, and specific didactic perspectives and defines key concepts such as educational task, graded task, and grading parameter. It also attempts to outline sources for linguistic-didactic considerations on task grading in the Czech language. The second part introduces the research methodology, the process of obtaining, transcribing, and annotating a sample of 15 datasets. Subsequently, a quantitative and quantitative-qualitative analysis of selected phenomena is conducted, taking into account both formal and semantic aspects of the collected counterfactual conditional clauses. The analysis shows that a direct interpretation of the relationship between the occurrence of the intended grading parameter and the success of task-solving is not possible: at the individual level, differences in task-solving success based on the grading parameter are difficult to demonstrate, and at the group level,...

Bílek, Vojtěch ; Sojka, Pavel (advisor) ; Adam, Robert (referee)
The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to explore the use of Czech verb pattern "sázejí" and "sází" doublets in contemporary Czech fiction. The theoretical part provides a description of the historical development of the "sázet" pattern, describes the codification history of morphological variation, and describes the characteristics of the Czech fiction language sphere. The empirical part presents a sample of twelve Czech books and their editorial intervention habits. For each of these books, the characteristic language and sociolinguistic factors of the generation and the authors' regional origin are described. The hypotheses are set and presented based on the already existing research performed by Pavel Sojka, especially the research focusing on the prose of Bohumil Hrabal. Following the presentation of the individual results, the conclusion is presented and compared with the preceding research. This thesis confirms the competing tendencies of both variants as described by Sojka and further expands the mapped inter-paradigmatic balancing area by describing certain differences in the collected data. The provided conclusion describes factors influencing the distribution of doublets in fiction and summarises the stylistic trends in the Czech fiction sphere. Comparison of the most frequent lemmas in written and spoken Czech
Špetová, Leona ; Kováříková, Dominika (advisor) ; Adam, Robert (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with the 20 most frequent lemmas in the SYN2020 corpus of written Czech and the ORAL corpus of informal spoken Czech. The aim of this thesis is to find out what functions and meanings studied lemmas have and, above all, to investigate whether these meanings and functions differ in spoken and written communication. The data for the research were extracted from the SYN2020 corpus of written Czech and the ORAL corpus of informal spoken Czech. A semantic analysis of the lemmas is based on a random sample from both corpora. The results of the comparison of the 20 most frequent lemmas in the written and spoken corpora show that the most frequent lemmas in both corpora are expressions with a grammatical function, which are involved in the construction and organization of the text. These lemmas often have multiple meanings. The analysis shows that the most frequent expressions in the SYN2020 corpus are prepositions and conjunctions and in the ORAL corpus pronouns and deictic expressions. The most frequent expressions in the ORAL corpus often also have a pragmatic function. These expressions can be described as discourse markers. By comparing the most frequent lemmas we can observe different characteristics of written and spoken communication.
