Fialka, Prokop ; Koláček, Jakub (advisor) ; Ťupek, Pavel (referee)
This bachelor's thesis analyses the phenomenon of foundations - bonyads in postrevolutionary Iran. The most prominent bonyads were founded during the Islamic revolution and were a transformation of already existing foundations that had been set up during the reign of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. Today, they stand on the verge of formal and informal structures of the Iranian state. Based on the study of academic literature and selected sources, the author compares their contradictory roles: charitable activities and substituting of some of the functions of the Iranian welfare state versus informal intervening in politics through a vast network of economic activities outside the control of the Iranian governmental ministries. The thesis is based on a case study of one of the Iran's most important foundation Bonyad-e Mostaz'afan (Foundation of the Oppressed) and addresses the question of to what extent are bonyads charitable foundations and to what extent they play other, less apparent roles in the context of Iranian political system and structures of power.

The Ahmadiyya movement in India
Ivanková, Bianka ; Ťupek, Pavel (advisor) ; Strnad, Jaroslav (referee)
This master thesis deals with the modern messianic Ahmadiyya movement founded in the 19th century in Punjab, India, which later spread to Europe as a missionary movement. Followers of the Ahmadiyya consider themselves Muslims, but are considered heretics by the Muslim majority, and persecuted in many parts of the world because of their faith. The work presents the origin and history of the movement against the background of the life of its founder, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, as well as the general context of messianism and the theory of the restoration of faith in India. It also maps the situation after the death of Ghulam Ahmad and the doctrinal schism in the movement. The aim of the thesis is to answer the question of the identity and exclusivity of the Ahmadiyya movement in the context of Islam, as well as to point out the connection between its political activity before the partition of India and the subsequent persecution in Pakistan after 1947. The work is based not only on the works of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad and rich Ahmadiyya production, but also on academic studies of Western researchers and religious and social periodicals. Keywords: ahmadiyya, movement, Islam, messianism, India, Ahmad

Denk, Matěj ; Beránek, Ondřej (advisor) ; Ťupek, Pavel (referee)
This thesis is preoccupied with the development of Iraqi political Shi'a after the fall of Ṣaddām Ḥusayn. Its main area of interest is the comparison of three Shi'i political movements - Dac wa Party, the Supreme Council for the Islamic revolution in Iraq and the movement of Muqtadā aṣ-Ṣadr on the background of broader historical development of Shi'i community in Iraq. Although this thesis is written in English, it uses both English and Arabic sources and literature with occasional excursions into French and Persian sources. The thesis deals with the ideological transformation of the parties, formation of alliances, utilization of militias for political goals and the relations with the USA and Iran. The conclusion of the thesis is that the Iraqi Shi'i political scene is deeply fragmented, strongly influenced by Iran and its parties are often vehicles for personal political ambitions of its leaders which effectively prevents any unification of Shi'i political position and creation of strong central Iraqi government.
