Minorities in Czech and Polish law Abstract This thesis is devoted to a comparison between the legal regulation of national and ethnic minorities in Czech and Polish law. These two jurisdictions have been selected for comparison due to partly shared legal culture, linguistic proximity, and comparable modern history. The analysis is focused on guarantees provided to national and ethnic minorities in both countries and reveals that while there are many similarities between the two legal cultures, the legal systems differ in numerous ways. In both countries, the basic legal guarantees to minorities are regulated in the constitutions and additionally, legal guarantees to minorities are dealt with comprehensively in acts devoted solely to national and ethnic minorities, i.e., the Act on the rights of persons belonging to national and ethnic minorities, Act No. 273/2001 Coll. in the Czech Republic, and the Act of 6 January 2005 on national and ethnic minorities and on the regional language, (Dz.U. 2005 Nr 17 poz. 141). Both comprehensive minority acts regulate similar fields, such as the right to education in minority languages, the right to dissemination and reception of information in minority languages, the right to multilingual signs and inscriptions, the right to use one's forename and surname in a minority...
The Humanities versus the Technical Education - The Analysis of the Media Discourse in Nationwide Czech Newspapers (Comparison of Discourse Produced in 1990/1 and 2015)

Diploma thesis The Humanities versus the Technical Education - The Analysis of the Media Discourse in Nationwide Czech Newspapers (Comparison of Discourse Produced in 1990/1 and 2015) is trying to cover the most significant differences and similarities between two media discourses and also their change related to a social transformation caused by the political transformation. This thesis is divided into a theoretical part and an empirical part. The theoretical part focuses on a transformation of a definition of terms in dictionaries and encyclopaedias. The theoretical part also deals with the Humanities and Technical Education discussion not only in Czech but also abroad. By applying a critical discourse analysis the empirical part analyses an education discourse in Nationwide Czech Newspapers in the two periods (in 1990/1 and in 2015). A goal of this thesis is cover these two discourses, social actors, main themes and arguments. The conclusion of the empirical part is made of a comparison of these discourses and of a demonstration of the differences and similarities. Media discourse on deposit alimony - critical discourse analysis

This bachelor thesis deals with the media discourse on deposit alimony since the 29th of March 2017, when the proposed law about deposit alimony was approved by the Government of the Czech Republic. The theoretical frame is critical discourse analysis, specifically the Discourse-Historical Approach. In this thesis, three sets of data are analyzed: a) the version of the proposed law about the deposit alimony including the initiator's statement of reasons for proposing the law, b) electronic articles of the public media (Česká televize, Český rozhlas) and c) electronic articles of the three most popular online media (Novinky.cz, Idnes.cz, Aktualne.cz). This thesis is a detailed case study. Using the methodology of the Discourse-Historical Approach, the strategies of nomination, predication, argumentation, perspectivization and intensification are identified together with their linguistic realizations in the texts of media discourse on deposit alimony.
