The preference for the right and the left upper limb in primates and its stability
BLAŽKOVÁ, Veronika
Hand preference in primates was studied, especially in terms of comparing preferences for different actions and stability of these preferences in the life of an individual. A summary of researches on hand preferences in primates was made and commented.

Artical Reynolds numbers for pulsatile flow in the circular tube
Klimeš, František ; Kořenář, Josef
The problems of the stability of a laminar pulsating flow have their importance in cardiovascular fluid dynamics. The decelerated flow of blood after a contraction of the left ventricle (in systole) can be laminary even at a considerable high Reynolds' numbers. We presented a description of our experimental equipment and obtained results together with results published by several invesigators. Results indicated that the critical Reynolds number depends markedly on frequency similarity parameter and velocity or volume flow ratio.

Biventricular pacing parameters monitoring depending on the configuration of the left-ventricle lead
Procházka, Antonín ; Korpas, David (advisor) ; Penhaker, Marek (referee)
The aim of the study is to monitor three biventricular pacing parameters measured in the left-ventricle: stimulation threshold, impedance and R-wave voltage. The progression of parameters depending on the configuration of the left-ventricle lead is evaluated in this study. First aim of this study is to evaluate if the configuration has an effect on the progression of parameters. Second aim of this study is to detect and evaluate an effect of the used device. The data were collected at three intervals: day of implantation, 2nd - 5th month after implantation and 8th - 15th month after implantation. Repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) and software Matlab and Statistica were used for the statistical analysis. The configuration of the left-ventricle lead and also used device were used as factors in ANOVA. The progression of parameters depending on configuration of the left-ventricle lead is not statistically significant for all quantities. Impedance with LV tip > LV ring configuration is significantly greater in every interval than impedance with other configurations. R-wave voltage and impedance increase significantly between implantation and 2nd interval and between implantation and 3rd interval. Used device does not influence values and time progression of measured parameters...

Heart failure support in mathematical model with baroreflex control
Musil, Jan ; Převorovská, Světlana ; Maršík, František
The function of the mechanical support in the case of the heart failure in the consequence of the left heart ventricle hypocontractility has been simulated by the numerical model of the cardiovascular system with the baroreflex control which has been developed at the IT CAS.

Large-scale rehabilitation in the alluvial area along the lower reaches of the Dyje River
Lusk, Stanislav ; Pražák, O. ; Lusková, Věra ; Halačka, Karel ; Vetešník, Lukáš
The Dyje River between Lednice and Bulhary was straightened, canalised, and provided with levees. Most of the alluvial area near Podivin was transformed to arable land. Due to elimination of floods, save for exceptions, areas denoted as wetlands and reed beds were qute dry for most of the year. As a result, the native fish communities typical of alluvial habitats gradually vanished from their habitats. In recent years, some 470 hectares on the left bank of the Dyje River, owned by a single private person, were transformed into a deer sanctuary. In the past two years, the arable land in that area has been gradually turned into meadows and a floodplain forest, together with restoring and enlarging the area of permanently waterlogged parts denoted as wetlands. As a result, the conditions permitting permanent occurrence of fish have been significantly improved and for a purposeful restoration of their fish communities in which native species predominate (the Carassius-Misgurnus type).

THE EFFECT OF TOURISM AND MANAGEMENT OF LANDSCAPE IN ŠUMAVA NATIONAL PARK AND LANDSCAPE PROTECTED AREA ON COMMUNITIES OF EPIGEIC BEETLES
ŠŤASTNÝ, Jakub
The effect of tourism and different landscape management on beetle communities using pitfall trapping in the Šumava mountain area (National Park and Protected Landscape Area) was studied. The pitfall traps were arranged on left side plots of the Lipno dam with a different man-made pressure. The beetle communities of parking lots, dam shores and bushes were studied. The lowest number of species discovered by pitfall trapping was on plots strongly affected by man (parking lot). The highest number of species was found on plots of dam shores in consequence of ecoton effect. The community structure of the parking lots and dam shores was formed in 60 per cent by eurytopic species. Stenotopic species were dominant only on habitat of bushes. A regular and intensive management in the dam shores and the parking lots (mowing, herbicide application, fragmentation ) was the main factor affecting the epigeic beetle communities.

Laterality from the Pianist´s Point of view in the Context of 20th century piano literature
Žalčíková, Lenka Sarah ; Toperczer, Peter (advisor) ; Bilinská, Kvitoslava (referee)
This thesis describes the role of the left hand in piano works of the composers of 20th centruy, especially in leoš Janáček´s composition "Capriccio for left hand and wind instruments ensemble". You can find an alphabetical list of composers who dealt with this theme and list of all available compositions for left hand. A point of view of the pianists - veterans was very important - they encouraged the composers to write a solo left-hand works and so they contribute to distribution of these compositions. Also the left-handed pianists asked the composers for new compositions for left hand. Key words: Laterality, Janáček, Capriccio

The effect of biventricular pacing as compared to single - side left - ventricular pacing and bifocal pacing of the right ventricle in patients with chronic heart failure
Riedlbauchová, Lucie ; Kautzner, Josef (advisor) ; Horký, Karel (referee) ; Táborský, Miloš (referee)
Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) represents an accepted treatment modality in patients with advance chronic heart failure, acute and long-term benefit of which was confirmed in several clinical trials. Recently, reduced mortality and rate of hospitalization for heart failure were also demonstrated. However, response to CRT is interindividually highly variable with a substantial proportion of CRT recipients who do not respond to this therapy. Although the identification of suitable candidates is probably the most important factor in the reduction of the rate of non-responders, some other determinants, peri- and post-implant, may substantially affect the final effect of CRT. The present PhD focused on some of these variables: 1/ First of them is a selection of the appropriate pacing mode. This PhD evaluated effect of 3 pacing modalities that have been proposed as alternatives of CRT - biventricular pacing (BiV), single-site left-ventricular pacing (LVP) and rightventricular bifocal pacing (Bif). It was clearly shown that the first two pacing strategies, BiV (it is simultaneous pacing of both ventricles) and LVP, cause comparable acute hemodynamic improvement at rest. Study No.2 of this PhD confirms that the comparable effect of BiV and LVP is preserved also during the exercise. In addition, study No.1...
