The concept of 'cancer transition' in selected European countries
Naxera, Martin ; Hulíková Tesárková, Klára (advisor) ; Kulhánová, Ivana (referee)
The concept of 'cancer transition' in selected European countries Abstract This paper examines the concept(s) of 'cancer transition' which consists of interpretation of the cancer epidemiology development dynamics. The conceptualizations by various important authors are compared. Comparation is also made between them and the concepts of epidemiologic and health transition. The concepts of 'cancer transition' are then given the context of selected characteristics of the cancer epidemiology. The concepts are additionally illustrated by visualization of the age-standardized mortality and incidence rates in selected European countries - Czechia, Ireland, Norway and Malta in the 1960-2017 period. Keywords: cancer transition, epidemiologic transition, cancer, mortality
Impact of smoking on cancer incidence in Czechia
Dušková, Kristýna ; Kulhánová, Ivana (advisor) ; Pánková, Alexandra (referee)
Abstact This thesis investigate the impact of smoking on the development of cancer. The main goal of this thesis is to determine the effect of smoking on the development of cancer in Czechia in the years 1978, 1988, 1998, 2008 and 2018 with a focus on differences in time, gender and age groups. The secondary goal of the thesis is to determine the distribution of smoking prevalence by gender, age groups and level of education, as well as the dependence of smoking prevalence on the level of education, social differences in the influence of smoking on cancer. The analytical part of the work uses the method of age-standardized incidence rate, population attributable fraction and the method of binary logistic regression. Data from the Institute of Health Information and Statistics of the Czech Republic, the Czech Statistical Office and Eurostat were used for the analysis. It has been shown that the prevalence of smoking depends on the level of education, where the probability of smoking is higher in people with a lower level of education than in people with a high level of education. In Czechia, between 1978 and 2018, the impact of smoking on the development of cancer decreased. While the impact of smoking on the development of cancer decreased in men, it was possible to observe an increase of the impact of...
Selected aspects of the mortality development in the USA since the turn of the millennium
Vančurová, Mariana ; Hulíková Tesárková, Klára (advisor) ; Kalibová, Květa (referee)
Selected aspects of the mortality development in the USA since the turn of the millennium Abstract The main goal of the thesis was to analyze the development of mortality from selected causes in the USA between the years 1999 and 2019. The selected causes are long-term leading causes of death in the USA. These include cardiovascular diseases, malignant neoplasms, chronic lower respiratory diseases, external causes and cerebrovascular diseases. The current disease covid-19 was included in the selected causes of death, as according to preliminary data, it was the third leading cause of death in the USA in the year 2020. The first part presents the mortality rates in the USA from different perspectives to create the context of the current development of mortality trends and also characterizes the individual causes of death, which are then addressed in the analytical part of the thesis. Furthermore, the healthcare system of the USA is described, as it is one of the factors influencing the mortality rate and also because it differs significantly from the systems known in Europe. The second part presents the development of mortality from selected causes of death, according to sex and individual US states. Methods used in the analytical part of the thesis were the gross mortality rate, direct and indirect...
Mortality of females from selected malignant neoplasms in the context of preventive programs in the Czech and Slovak Republic since 1994
Antošová, Marie ; Hulíková Tesárková, Klára (advisor) ; Fialová, Ludmila (referee)
Mortality of females from selected malignant neoplasms in the context of preventive programs in the Czech and Slovak Republic since 1994 Abstract The main aim of the thesis is to compare the differences in mortality due to female malignant neoplasms (neoplasm of the breast, cervix and colon) in the Czech Republic and Slovak Republic during 1994-2015. Changes in mortality levels have been associated with the implementation of relevant preventive programs. The development of mortality is analyzed according to age only for female population and causes of death using the standardized mortality rate of selected causes of death and age specific mortality rate and using the decomposition of life expectancy at birth between the years 1994-2001 and 2009-2015 in terms of age groups and causes of death. Results of the analytical part of the thesis show that mortality decreased during 1994-2015 but the differences among mortality in both selected countries occurred. Mortality in both the analyzed countries differed above all for malignant neoplasm of the breast. Higher efficiency of established preventive programs has been demonstrated in the Czech Republic than in the Slovak Republic. Keywords: Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, mortality by causes of death, females, prevention programs, malignant neoplasms, decomposition

Sex-specific analysis of mortality for malignant neoplasms in the Czech Republic in the years 1994-2013 Abstract The aim of this bachelor thesis is to analyze and describe the evolution of mortality due to malignant neoplasms in the Czech Republic from 1994 to 2013 and to study mortality of malignant neoplasms by sexes in detail in the chosen spatial and temporal distribution for the purpose of identifying possible factors which can have an influence on differences between men and women. This thesis deals with mortality from selected causes of death in the malignant neoplasms in addition to the analysis of mortality for the whole group of malignant tumours. There was used standardized mortality rate as the main indicator of mortality and the probability of death by age and decomposition of the difference in life expectancy at birth by cause of death and age between 1994 and 2013 were also used as a more detailed analysis of mortality. During the reported period standardized mortality rate decreased for the whole group of malignant neoplasms and for most particular causes of death for both sexes. It was also found that the differences between men and women are rather decreasing, but for some causes of death such as malignant neoplasm of colon, malignant neoplasm of bronchus and lungs, and malignant neoplasm...
Mortality by cause of death: international comparison of recent trends
Filip, Jakub ; Pechholdová, Markéta (advisor) ; Langhamrová, Jitka (referee)
The aim of my work is to describe and compare changes in mortality according to classes of causes of death in the Czech Republic and selected European countries between 1994 - 2009. The work includes mortality characteristics of the Czech Republic, Germany, Estonia, Austria and Finland. The work is divided into three main parts. The first part describes terms related to mortality. The second part deals with the coding of causes of death, its history and origin. The third part is devoted to comparing mortality by cause of death, where the emphasis is on diseases of the circulatory system, malignant neoplasms and external causes.
