Stress management in the healthcare sector
MICHELOVÁ, Lucie
The aim of the bachelor thesis is to identify stressors and evaluate the impact of stress on healthcare workers, including suggestions for changes in current stress management. The thesis also looks at how employees in this sector manage stress and how they prevent stress. The research part of the thesis is based on a questionnaire survey and an unstructured interview with the head nurse of the Hospital Strakonice, a.s., who is responsible, among other things, for human resources activities. The aim of the questionnaire was to find out whether and how stress affects the employees of the Hospital. The questionnaire was approved by the head nurse and, upon her request, was produced in printed form. It was processed on the Survio.cz website and subsequently printed and distributed to 150 respondents, in departments selected by the HR manager. Of these 150, 117 questionnaires were returned. The return rate of this questionnaire is therefore 78%. The questionnaire contains 22 closed questions. The data collected from the paper questionnaires were entered into Microsoft Office Excel and Microsoft Office Word software, which were subsequently analysed and used to produce tables and corresponding graphs. The results show that doctors tend to have many years of experience and practice in the field. In addition, they also have experience in time-management. They perceive their profession as stressful, but they tend not to experience stress after working hours. The general nurse position has the highest number of respondents who perceive their profession as stressful. They have a lot of administrative work: they work more overtime than doctors or paramedics and they do not have free time for recovery or rest. The job position of an orderly, according to the respondents, is the least stressful. Employees in this job are more likely to not experience the effects of long-term stress, probably because they mainly take care of themselves through sporting activities.

Sláviková, Karolína ; Šivicová, Gabriela (advisor) ; Šturma, Jaroslav (referee)
The goal of this thesis, "Psychological and social aspects of healthcare personnel's work with a dying patient", is to examine the socially unattractive issue of dying. Despite the fact that dying is a natural process, we often treat it with contempt and concern. We inspect this topic through a prism of healthcare personnel view, who is in contact with dying and death on a daily basis. In the theoretical part, we have first described the concept of death from historical point of view and afterwards we have narrowed it down to psychological-medical view of dying. Next, we have introduced the area of lenitive care for a dying patient, which is closely related to the topic of euthanasia. Of course, in relation to euthanasia, we then talked about medical ethics. This way we have circled around the relationship between a medic and his patient, the specifics of their communication, and finally we have described the psychological stress of healthcare personnel, possible coping strategies and eventual defensive mechanisms. Bibliography also features current research, both domestic and foreign. In the empirical part, we have attempted to map and describe psychosocial aspects relevant to working with a dying patient, with emphasis on identifying stress factors and strategies for healthcare personnel to cope...
Medical and sanitary staff reaction on physical attack in a health-care institution
KÁCHA, Vojtěch
This bachelor thesis deals with the matter of physical attack on medical personnel in health-care institution, especially on the emergency unit. Medical staff can get into confrontation with pacient, who can be influenced by drugs, alcohol, serious mental illness, or by difficult life situation, which evoke conflict behavior. This confrontation then can be dangerous for safety of health workers, but also their patients. Theoretical part will be based on characteristics of violence, agression and theoretical methodology during encounter with agressive pacient. Study define violence and it´s categories. It also shows resolving methods already escalated confrontation. In practical part study searches and compares aggression resolution between two regional and two district hospitals. It mainly identifies, which techniques health-care institution workers use in order to prevent physical attack from patient, then how health-care workers react to it and also how often do they encounter verbal and physical aggression during their shift. For this research the qualitative technique, along side with inquiring method and in-depth conversation will be used, whereas the research sample is going to be medical staff on the emergency department i.e. nurses and paramedics. Result of the study shows, that health-care workers are in contact with verbal aggression almost every workshift, with physical then only occasionally, eventhough the number of cases have grown. Result of thesis tells, that there is bigger number of cases in district hospitals, than, logically, in regional hospitals, especially because of higher number of patients in district hospitals. But in percentage sign it could be told, that the number is same, no matter the location. The more the health-care personnel are in contact with aggressive behavior, the more they had to adapt to it. And so if they notice, that the situation cannot be deescalated, they will rather call for security service of the hospital, or for the police, so they would not have to risk their own, or the patients' health. But primarily they are trying to handle the situation with principles of correct communication. Unsettling discovery is, that patients' conflict behavior is for hospital personnel on daily basis and it is no longer suprising for them. Prevalence It seems, that for society agrressive behavior became standart way of how to achieve it's goals. There should be enough attention for society to realise, that aggressive Aggression prevalence in hospital instituon points to more komplex society problem, where aggressive behavior is more and more seen as legitimate way, of achieving goals. Study is warning before aggressive prevalence in healt-care institutions. Solution of this problem stands on cooperation of several pillars. Hospital headquarters should provide enough safety for their workers and patients from aggressors and also organise educational programs about correct approach towards aggressive people a eventually elementary courses of self-defence, if needed. These results should also alarm media companies, which should aim for primary prevention a should actively draw attention and convey people about that there is no place for aggression in health-care instition without legitimate reason, because resolution of conflicts is exactly what holds off personnel from providing quality and effective health-care.
Education of parents of a child with epilepsy
MIKEŠOVÁ, Barbora
Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder characterised by serious brain illness that causes unprovoked, repeating seizures. The seizure is characterised as excessive and abnormal electric activity in an individual s brain. Epilepsy is caused by various factors, among them for example genetic factors, birth defects, traumatic brain injuries, surgery, undertaken stress, infection or other illnesses and it can appear at any age. Seizures manifestation can vary in type, development, cause and treatment. A suitably indicated treatment and appropriately educated parents about epilepsy issues and lifestyle measures are the basis for an optimal child s participation in a common group without major restrictions. The aim of this thesis was to find out how the medical personnel is devoted to education of parents and a child with epilepsy diagnosis and in the same time to find out the extent of parents knowledge of suitable treatment and lifestyle measures related to this diagnosis. For the research construct, qualitative research was selected, using a half-structured interview, particularly an interviewing method. In the frame of better quality of result processing, the interviews were recorded on a dictaphone and then re-written exactly and analysed. The results were analysed through a pencil and paper method that uses coding. There were 5 fields categorised: Content of education from the side of medical personnel, Implementation of education from the side of medical personnel, Parents knowledge about lifestyle measures, Sources of information concerning lifestyle measures from the side of parents with a child with epilepsy and educational activities from the point of view of children nurses concerning lifestyle measures. The individual categories are formed by further sub-categories, in which the resulting data are represented systematically. The results are provided in a clear way in individual tables and charts of the practical part of this thesis. From the research emerged that the medical personnel is devoted significantly to parents education and their children with epilepsy in the field of diagnosis, treatment, lifestyle and first aid. However, it was interesting to discover that this education is provided mostly by a doctor, lifestyle measures including, while a nurse provides only additional education in this field. From the results also emerged that the medical personnel try to select suitable educational environment and time intervals according to needs of children as patients and their parents. The parents also have general information about the epilepsy issue and lifestyle measures. It turned out that the parents have enough information concerning medicamentous first aid and the way of given medicaments delivery, but we encounter unfamiliarity of a time border of this medicament's delivery. Parent's ignorance was also discovered in general first aid principles. From the research also emerged that the information about common issues in the field of lifestyle measures was looked for by the parents most frequently outside the hospital environment, that is in the surroundings and on the internet. We decided to form an educational plan based on the results, that can be used as a model base for practical usage by nursing personnel. The educational plan concerns the education about lifestyle measures and first aid during a seizure.
