Analysis of dispute settlement mechanism in Trade and Cooperation Agreement between the EU and the UK

The thesis deals with the analysis of the dispute settlement mechanism in the Trade and Cooperation Agreement between the European Union and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The present legal arrangements governing the relationship between the United Kingdom, as the first former member state, and the European Union entail a number of ambiguities in political and legal discourse. In order to obtain a comprehensive picture and achieve the research objective, the thesis also includes the Withdrawal Agreement and a selected new generation trade agreement, the EU-Korea Agreement, as part of its analysis. To achieve this objective, the thesis sets out to answer two research questions, that is (1) how the institutional provisions of the agreements involved in the system of dispute settlement differ from each other and, where applicable, from the provisions of standard trade agreements concluded by the EU, and (2) how the dispute settlement mechanism foreseen by the individual agreements differ from each other and, where applicable, from other dispute settlement mechanisms in EU trade agreements. The Irish issue in the light of the Brexit debates

The topic of this thesis is the Irish issue in the light of the Brexit debates. British people decided to leave the European Union in referendum in June 2016. Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty was activated 29th of March 2017. Two years long negotiating period started from that date. The withdrawal agreement proposal which was approved by all 27 members of the European Union was rejected three times by British parliament. Brexit was postponed until the end of October of 2019. Future relationship on the island of Ireland with Irish backstop became the main barrier of Brexit negotiations. Both sides of negotiations agree on no possibility of hard border between Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Both of them want to follow The Good Friday Agreement of 1998. On the other hand none of them is willing to step aside from their earlier requirements. Theresa May, British prime minister, decided to leave the EU Custom Union and the European Single Market resolutely. The EU rejected to renegotiate the withdrawal agreement proposal that includes the Irish backstop. The Irish backstop guarantee maintaining an open border on the island of Ireland in the event that the UK leaves the EU without securing an all-encompassing deal. Brexit and mutual trade between the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom

This bachelor thesis deals with the current issue of leaving the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland from the European Union, assesses the possible impact of Brexit on mutual trade between the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom and evaluates its possible impact on the Czech economy. After a brief overview of the history of the UK membership in the EU, a description of the complicated EU and UK negotiations follows. Another chapter deals with some studies and analyzes evaluating the impact of Brexit on the British economy. The following discussion concerns negotiated Withdrawal Agreement and some possible EU-UK mutual relation models after finishing the transition period - membership in the European Economic Area (Norwegian model), negotiation of a free trade agreement (Swiss model, Canadian model), withdrawal without agreement (hard Brexit). The UK is one of the most important export partners of the Czech Republic, which results from the evaluation of mutual trade exchange data. In the final part, this thesis examines the possible influence of the decline of the British economy consumption on GDP of the Czech Republic using the Input- Output analysis and evaluates the potential impact of Brexit on the mutual trade between the Czech Republic and the UK in the automotive industry....
