The possibilities of horticultural production in stalled spaces and public spaces of postindustrial city
Adamková, Jana ; Löw, Jiří (referee) ; Štěpánková,, Roberta (referee) ; Havliš, Karel (advisor)
The image of the postindustrial city is formed by public spaces (streets, plazas and squares, parks, riverfronts and waterfronts) together with a wide range of underused urban spaces and long-term unused areas of stalled spaces. The subject of this work is research of different types of urban gardening spaces and their optimal spatial, operational and functional parameters in the context of urbanism and urban planning. The aim is to apply them to the structure of unused urban spaces. On the basis of the case studies included in the research, the success of placement of individual community projects in different types of public spaces and stalled spaces is assessed. Recommendations for planning practice are based on these evaluations. The results of the work show that spaces with possibilities of horticultural production are a suitable solution for the temporary and also long-term use of under-utilized urban areas with many benefits in social, economic and environmental areas.
Zjištění druhů rostlin vhodných pro revitalizaci příměstské zeleně
Babická, Jana
The aim of this thesis was to identify plant species in the area of TJ Sokol, Brno – Žabovřesky. To evaluate the biodiversity within these species, to evaluate the state of the current vegetation and to propose agriculturally usable species as part of the revitalization of the area. The area is made up of five parts that are in one area, but each of them has a different type of vegetation. Sixteen species were identified within area A, forty-seven species were identified within area B, twenty-four species found on area C, forty-six plant species were found on area D, and nineteen plant species were identified on area E. Within the framework of ascertaining the state of vegetation, revitalization measures were proposed for individual areas of interest. Area A: grass area regeneration design, area B: vineyard design, area C: fruit orchard design, area D: maintenance of the original orchard creation, area E: herb section design.

Sukopová, Dagmar ; Utíkalová, Ivana (referee) ; Mléčka, Jan (advisor)
In my diploma thesis, I wanted to outline the possibilities of gradual revitalization of our cities in the spirit of permaculture and at the same time support food self-sufficiency by designing fruit parks, community and roof gardens for commercial and non-commercial use. The work deals with the idea of integrating agriculture into the urban environment in local conditions. The application of urban agriculture, especially in Western countries, is already quite common. The work should serve as a guide to creating a more sustainable urban environment.

Oost, Franciene ; Horký-Hlucháň , Ondřej (advisor) ; Polesný, Zbyněk (referee)
This paper discusses urban agriculture in Dakar and Amsterdam and its contribution to urban sustainability. Therefore, it establishes an operational definition of urban sustainability, which is comprised of economic, social and environmental dimensions. It gives an insight in urban agriculture in both cities, and it analyzes its contribution to urban sustainability by examining the economic, social and environmental issues which are related to urban farming. Furthermore, it gives an insight in the differences of urban agriculture in the global South and the global North. Its findings suggest that although urban agriculture has potential for creating more sustainable cities, there are several constraints which need to be overcome. Keywords: Urban agriculture, urban sustainability, global South, global North, Dakar, Amsterdam
Potential of garden and productive urban space in the today's city
Adamková, Jana
Green areas were an integral part of cities throughout the history. Productive garden, which represents an archetypal symbol of human livelihoods and connection between man and earth, has been disappearing from the urban structure in recent years. Urban agglomerations and their resource uses become the dominant feature of the human presence on the earth, profoundly changing humanity’s relationship to its host planet and its ecosystems. Cities require vast areas of land for their sustenance and have come to depend on large amounts of food being brought in from outside the land area they actually occupy. The article deals with the importance of gardens for humans and highlights the role of productive urban space in process of creating a viable urban environment. As the world urbanises, greater local food self-reliance, using nutrients accumulating in our cities, must be regarded as an important aspect of sustainable urban development. Along with other initiatives and activities, urban agriculture therefore has an important role to contribute to the sustainability of cities in various ways – spatially, socio-economically and environmentally.
