The bachelor’s thesis is focused on progressive turning tools. The beginning of the study deals with history and development of turning tolls. Next part deals with the tool geometry. The following description of the different tool materials, construction tools and distribution, analysis of major companies and their catalogs. At the end the procedure of the selection of the tool holder and indexable cutting insert is given.

This bachelor´s thesis is focused on cermets, which are ranked among tool materials. At the beginning is an overview, distribution and description of the basic materials for cutting tools. The main part follow, which deals with cermets themselves in more detail, from the description of their history through to the production and marking up of the effects of individual elements of the structure and properties of the cermets. In the conclusion of this work is an example of cermets in the manufacturing range of the world´s leading producer of tools and tool materials.

The practical part deals with the influence of the cutting conditions on the roughness of the machined surface when turning hardened steel.
