Czech Language on Tombstones in Iowa, USA

The aim of this thesis is to describe the Czech language on tombstones in selected cemeteries in the state of Iowa in the U.S., based on photos made in cooperation with Americans and photographs of Iowa cemeteries available on website. The first part deals with the emigration to the United States, the development of settlement Czech immigrants and Czech immigrant communities in Iowa. Then the text mentions the issue of epitaphs as evidence of assimilation of immigrants. Based on available data, examined photographs of tombstones are listed in Annex together with transcribed inscriptions on them. Following section involves linguistic analysis of texts, where is the influence of English reflected. The work is based on studies of E. Eckert, who devoted her work to the Czech language on the tombstones in Texas.
Sepulchral monuments in the heritage conservation practice

The methodology book pioneers in presenting the forms and evolution of Christian sepulchral monuments dated from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, their decoration and epigraphic suit. The main part of the methodology book consists of chapters on recording, documentation, preservation and presentation of sepulchral monuments. The chapters on epigraphic and heraldic accessories are aimed to be directly used as sources for sepulchral monuments' recording. A lot of attention is paid to managing records of the monuments in the environment of the heritage conservation integrated information system.

Inscriptions on the graves in the region Poličsko

The diploma thesis deals with a complex research of tomb inscriptions located in cemeteries in micro-region Poličsko. It specifies and characterizes the researched region and defines its history. Besides dealing with an appearance of cemeteries, graves and tombstones all inscriptions are classified by a location on a tombstone and topic. The research also carries out the analysis of their content and introduces quotations from the Bible, extracts of songs and poems, statements of famous people written on tombstones and identifies their sources. Moreover it also analyzes German inscriptions on the graves in the researched field and compares them with the same age Czech inscriptions. My paper presents foreign language inscriptions in original forms, and translates them into Czech language. Last but not least it writes down the tomb inscriptions in their accurate form. The iconography of Jewish tombstones

This thesis deals with symbols on tombstones in Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia. It is divided into two parts and includes an introduction and conclusion. Introduction deals with the reason why the author chose the topic, a brief outlining the procedures that have decided to use, and defines goals. The first part deals with topics that are closely associated with the symbols on the gravestones and tombstones themselves. The chapters in this section describes the association Chevra Kadisha, burial, tombstones and epitaphs. The second part, which is divided into seven chapters, contains a summary of all symbols along with their meanings, origin, relationship to the biblical text, dating etc. The main areas are motifs associated with the name of the deceased, symbols of functions, activities and work, ways of expressing the Torah, motives of crown, symbols associated with the origin, religious obligations and charity, symbols of grief and motifs associated with the olam ha-ba. The conclusion sums up the importance of the topic and the goal of the work, along with the director's evaluation her work with literature and her own ideas, with which she decided for the subject of The iconography of Jewish tombstones.
