Changes of the area around the Ore Mountain Railway during the period of industrialization

This diploma thesis discusses the changes of the cultural landscape and its inhabitants around the Ore Mountain Railway during the period of industrialization. The goal of a thesis is to describe the changes during the period of industrialization and the influence of newly build Ore Mountain Railway. The Ore Mountain Railway was a significant international transport link furthermore existence of railway had direct influence on the development of small villages in the vicinity. This thesis focuses on villages directly influenced by this railway in the period of industrialization. The first part is devoted to explanation of fundamental terms and description of region. Furthermore, there is a historical description of the region before the period of industrialization. In the next part is stated specific major development of the cultural landscape related to the growth of traffic and industry. In addition, there also describe social changes in the period of industrialization. The major focus of thesis is on the village Hrob. This village is used as an example for explanation of the influence of the Ore Mountain Railway to its region. In the last part is briefly described current state of the Ore Mountain Railway in these days.
Settlement Desertion in Consequence of Opencast Brown Coal Mining in the Most District and Chomutov District - the Example of the ČSA Mine

- Settlement Desertion in Consequence of Opencast Brown Coal Mining in the Most District and Chomutov District - the Example of the ČSA Mine The thesis deals with the settlement desertion due to the open cast mining of brown coal. The area of interest is the ČSA Mine which lies on the border of the Most and Chomutov districts. The first part is devoted to the changes in the settlement structure of the both districts in the 20th century, with the emphasis placed on the settlement desertion. The concentration of the settlement was affected not only by the destruction of residential structures, but also by the post-war transfer of Czech Germans and the process of urbanization. Population changes in the Chomutov and Most districts are processed also graphically. The other part of this work is focused on the ČSA quarry itself and the settlement destroyed as a result of its expansion. The regional ecological mining limits, set by the government in 1991, protect the villages of Horní Jiřetín and Černice against the advancing liquidation process. The issue of breaking those limits is processed using qualitative research - an analysis of interviews with representatives of neighboring municipalities, civic associations and mining companies. Historical and future development of water features on sites affeted by mining in North-West Bohemia braun coal basin.

The work is focused on the development of water bodies in the area disturbed by lignite mining in the North Bohemian brown coal basin and Sokolov. In the last century there was destruction of the landscape and thus the disturbance of the water régime due to lignite mining. The transition from underground mining to surface mining of lignite caused the extinction of villages, roads, railways, land and greenery. Water surfaces are dried and water streams converted into new artificial troughs. Currently people try to cover up the consequences of interference with the natural landscape by restoration, creation and environmental protection. This effort is realized through land reclamation. Addressed are primarily water reclamation, evaluation of water components changes in different time periods in the and significance of these changes for the landscape, which we are going to leave to future generations.
Sustainable development as a key strategy to solve problem of brown coal mining in the Sokolov region

Bachelor's thesis describes the concept of sustainable development in theory and practice, practice focuses on the region of Sokolov and its specifics. The goal is to determine how the Sokolov region through the strategy of sustainable development is facing the impacts of the mining of brown coal. It analyzes in particular the impact of mining activities in the region and using the concept of sustainable development is looking for possible solutions and recommendations for its development. Main benefits of this work is a case study in which, through a questionnaire survey collected the views of local actors in different areas of sustainable development. The regional analysis and research findings underlying final recommendations for the future development of the region.
The brown coal exploitation a recultivation impact on socioeconomic development of District Sokolov

This diploma thesis deals with revitalization of landscape and recultivation in Sokolov region. In its first part the paper deals with socioeconomic analysis of region Sokolov. The main task of this analysis is, evaluate present progress of this region. It also describes history of brown coal mining in brown coal field of Sokolov region and negative effect for landscape. Next chapters of this thesis show: recultivation in general, project documentation, financing arrangements, company Sokolovská uhelná a.s. and its privatisation. One of the most important parts of this diploma thesis deals with recultivation in Sokolov region and description of particular locations in this region. The last part gives an evaluation of socioeconomic developmet in dependence on recultivation in Sokolov region.
