Teachers` and medics{\crq} burnout syndrome
VOPELKOVÁ, Kateřina
The bachelor thesis offers an overview of information related to problems of stress and burnout syndrome. I deal mainly with causes, symptoms, risk factors, prevention and getting stress and burnout syndrome under control. The aim of my bachelor thesis is to find out symptoms of burnout syndrome at teachers and health service employees. I supposed different manifestations of the burnout syndrome due to different demands put on these people in their professions. Another aim was to establish the level of informedness of teachers and health service employees about the burnout syndrome and possibilities how to face it. I supposed for only 60% of those inquired to know the burnout syndrome. So as to increase the level of burnout syndrome knowledge, I developed materials that should inform in a clear and brief way about the problems of burnout syndrome and its prevention. On the basis of my request, two teachers and health service employees assessed the materials. So as to obtain the data, I used an anonymous questionnaire, establish personal data, informedness and {--} using the Inventory of Manifestations of Burnout Syndrome of Tošner Spouse {--} the manifestations of burnout syndrome on cognitive, emotional, physical and social fileds. I made a percentual assessment of the data established. On the basis of obtained data assessment there was confirmed the pre-assumption that the manifestations of the burnout syndrome appear in different fields at teachers and health service employees. It was established that the level of informedness of teachers and health service employees about burnout syndrome is much lower than expected. So the hypothesis was not confirmed. The results show significant lack of informedness of respondents reffering the burnout syndrome and posibilities how to face it. All the respondents positively assessed the information material created and they consider it beneficial. Some of the respondents would appreciate further information about the burnout syndrome in the form of lecture.
The change in scope of burning-out syndrom prevention in the legislation chanages.
MEDLÍNOVÁ, Eva
Paper covers educational training of social services workers who are supposed to have achieved the prescribed qualifications in compliance with the above-mentioned act, or who are supposed to achieve the respective qualifications by means of the so-called qualifications course for workres engaged in social services. Assisting professions are characterized , in particular, by the fact that persons engaged in them are exposed to a more intense contact with people than other professions are. Performance of such professions is associated with great commitment and responsibility. Therefore, workers engaged in social services are exposed to risk of burnout syndrome development to a higher extent than people working in other professions. This syndrome is experienced most frequently as a feeling of mental, physical and emotional exhaustion and not only does it result in deterioration of the quality of services provided, it has very adverse consequences for a social services worker affected by burnout syndrome as well. The work resulted in finding that no improvement of the Burnout Syndrome Manifestation Inventory score was found and that no influence on attitudes to burnout syndrome on the part of most workers engaged in social services after completion of the qualification course was observable. The workers themselves feel that there is no link between the qualification course and the quality of services provided by them.
The burnout syndrome among the generation 50 plus
SHÝBALOVÁ, Ivana
This paper deals with an increasingly discussed phenomenon of today {--} the burnout syndrome. This is a state accompanied by a set of typical, but polymorphic, symptoms that result from the interaction of working environment, workplace conditions, demands on a worker, interpersonal relations and, last but not least, the subjective nature of the worker. Burnout is then reflected not only the quality of work of such a person but, primarily, in their personal life. Helping professions are most affected; in these professions a person is exposed to far greater pressure, level of responsibility and stress situations. The research was aimed at health professionals in hospital Nemocnice České Budějovice a.s. as compared to the personnel of Aurora Spa and Berta's Spa in Třeboň. The research used an already used questionnaire according to the Tošners, which includes the inventory of burnout signs. As expected, the susceptibility to stress is significantly higher among hospital personnel than in spas; many of the interviewed workers have already felt the symptoms of total exhaustion, which is reflected in the relationships outside work. As a possible prevention, a change of attitude, in spending leisure time and, last but not least, expert assistance, has proved beneficial. Threats of burnout pose a real problem for health professionals, therefore, such measures should be introduced at workplaces to help reduce the risk. Also the health professionals themselves should take care of their health and observe basic precautions against the occurrence of burnout. This paper should inform professionals in vulnerable occupations about the risks of burnout occurrence. At the same time, it should help realize that everybody may be threatened by the risk of burnout syndrome due to adverse effects of family and other social factors. Therefore, a strong emphasis should be placed on the observance of precautions, with the inclusion of following a healthy lifestyle.
The Personality Disabled Social Worker
KOCANDOVÁ, Jana
In the first part of the thesis I address the theoretical basis of the issue of social work, lifelong learning, the burnout syndrome and the ethical code of a social worker. Of health social worker help the others who face a problematic situation. They help people in order to enable them to exist and function in interaction with their social environment at a socially appreciated level. In the practical part of the thesis, the objective of the research that I set myself was to ascertain whether the health social workers have the competences to exercise their profession and what techniques they use to prevent the burnout syndrome. I decided for a written anonymous questionnaire to collect the data. The research was conducted in health and social facilities in 8 regions of the Czech Republic. 160 questionnaires were distributed altogether. The total research set consisted of 106 respondents. I examined two hypotheses. The first one was: A majority of health social workers does not have sufficient education to exercise the profession. The second one was: Of health social workers realize the risks of the burnout syndrome.
The Psychological and Spiritual Support in the Police of the Czech Republic
KOZÁK, Jaroslav
The thesis deals with the description of the psychological and spiritual support for the members of the police force. Its basis is the definition of the police force as the service to the public while the policeman is perceived as both the representative of the state force and the human being. In the part dealing with the professional ethics one points out to the usefulness of the ethical codex for a policeman as a possible inspiration for one's responsibility in the role of a policeman.Next, negative phenomena influencing a policeman are described, such as stress, a traumatic event, crisis, and a burn-out syndrom. The thesis considers the needs of the man linked to the needs of a policeman proper. Based on the information collected it then deals with the psychological and spiritual support. The psychological support in the police force has got a certain framework defined in the form of a crisis intervention, a psychological advisory service and a posttraumatic intervention care. A spiritual support has no specific concept defined. A priest has his role in posttraumatic intervention teams only. Based on the research carried out and on the literature available the possibility is outlined for the provision of not only psychological but also for the spiritual support.
Supervision in social health care facilities
ŠAŠKOVÁ, Šárka
The term of supervision means a view from above; the supervisor sees the supervisee?s problems from above, so he/she can see also the circumstances which remain hidden to the worker. A supervisor provides support and assistance to workers in helping professions. Supervision, by its nature, may help to prevent the burnout syndrome. In the theoretical part of my work, I tried to explain the concept of supervision, to what targets it can aim, what functions it may have, and what kinds of supervision there are. Equally important is the person of a supervisor who should meet certain criteria in order to carry out supervision. The objective of my thesis was to explore how supervision is carried out in health and social care facilities and how these supervisory meetings are perceived by the staff. Specifically, I focused on two homes for the elderly and the direct service care workers. Three research questions were laid down: 1 To determine whether the supervisor informed the staff about the way supervision will be carried out. 2 To find subjective benefits of supervision for direct care workers. 3 To find out if the staff has heard the term burnout and whether supervision can, according to direct service care workers, assist in the prevention of this syndrome. To obtain the needed information, I used qualitative research and, as an experimental method, the technique of semi-standard interviews. The total number of 10 workers from two homes for the elderly participated in the research. In the interviews, I intended to obtain the basic data on the workers, their awareness of supervision, in which facilities supervision is carried out, what is their relationship to the supervisor, how satisfied they are with supervisory meetings, and what they think is the relationship between job stress, burnout syndrome and supervision. The qualitative research resulted in the following hypotheses: H1: The success of supervision depends on the quality of communication within the facility. H2: Supervision is the prevention of the burnout syndrome. The objective of the thesis was fulfilled. The thesis can be used as a basis for further research, focusing, for example, on the quality of communication between the staff in health and social care facilities and the ways this communication may influence the course of supervision.

Psychosocial load at work of nurses and social workers
KUŘÁTKOVÁ, Lucie
The Thesis deals with the questions of psychosocial load at work for nurses and social workers. The Thesis is divided into two sections. The theoretical part deals with definitions of terms like caring professions, load and stress, then load at work and psychosocial load. There is also a brief characteristic of the professions of a nurse and a social worker. The aim of the empiric part was to find out on a selected sample of respondents (i.e. nurses and social workers) how the respondents perceive the character of their psychosocial load at work and whether they are at risk of burnout syndrome, to find out whether nurses or social workers perceive the psychosocial load more intensely and whether there is a difference in the risk of burnout syndrome between them. A quantitative questioning method and questionnaire technique were applied on data collection and processing in the research part of the Thesis. An anonymous questionnaire was used for the investigation. The questionnaire preparation was based on a questionnaire provided by my thesis guide. The original questionnaire was more extensive and was only designed for nurses, which was why I had to select suitable items and add some special items applicable on nurses as well as social workers. The questionnaire consisted mainly of closed questions where the respondents chose from five answers the one best corresponding with their own opinion. I set 3 hypotheses before starting the research itself. The questionnaire answers were processed both, manually by means of the stroke method and by a statistic programme SPSS. Segment and bar graphs in Microsoft Office Excel were used for graphical interpretation of the results. After evaluation of the questionnaire research results I found out that the previously set hypothesis H1 suggesting that nurses and social workers perceive various elements of their psychosocial load differently, was confirmed, hypothesis H2 suggesting that nurses are more loaded by the work with patients/clients than social workers was not confirmed, and hypothesis H3 suggesting that nurses are at higher risk of burnout syndrome than social workers was confirmed. The results of my thesis may serve to inform general public as well as professionals on the problems in question. They may also serve as a possible incentive for managerial staff to pay higher attention to the problems of psychosocial load at work among caring professions at individual medical care facilities. The results may also serve as a base for further studies and research in the field.
Coping with nurses´stress
PAPEŽOVÁ, Marta
The present bachalor{\crq}s thesis focuses on mental stress management among nurses working in departments of surgery and internal medicine. Today, when the health care has become more and more demanding in terms of professional expertise and social skills, this issue cannot be omitted. The thesis tries to observe the methods used by nurses in order to cope with mental stress while performing their job, it analyzes how such stress may influence the health care given, and lastly it tries to find out what the nurses are missing so that they can manage the mental stress. The survey was carried out by way of quantitative method. The data were collected from questionnaires. The survey focused on the target groups of nurses in the surgery departments in hospitals in Havlíčkův Brod, Jihlava, and Pelhřimov, and in the department of internal medicine in the same hospitals. First, there were defined three hypotheses. The survey outcome showed that the nurses in question give preference to using effective strategies in order to manage stressful situations than using inefficient and ineffective ones. They often make an effort to analyze the situation rationally and if needed, they ask for help, which proves correct the first hypothesis: Nurses try to analyze the situation objectively and solve the problem effectively. Most nurses are sure that the mental stress often influences the quality of the health care provided, that it has a negative impact on the relations with patients and communication between them and health care staff. The survey also found out that nurses who are mentally stressed out make mistakes. This proves the second hypothesis: Mental stress has a negative impact on the health care provided by nurses. The third hypothesis presumed that a lack of health care staff is the main cause for mental stress among nurses. This hypothesis has not been confirmed. The conclusion found out that all nurses lack auxiliary staff, qualified nurses, and quality personal background; some nurses also lack technical equipment, interest shown by management in their mental health, and enough relaxation because of time stress. Alarming number of nurses stated they increasingly do not find their work meaningful which leads to long-term feelings of exhaustion. A few nurses added that such situation makes them feel negative towards co-workers and clients which might be related to burnout syndrome. The outcome of the survey shall be handed to nurses in the departments of surgery and internal medicine in all hospitals to provoke more thoughts and also to the managements for further feedback and possible improvements in working conditions so that the nurses are healthier and the quality of health care better.
Abuse of power against clients by professional staff in care facilities.
KUPSOVÁ, Jitka
The objective of my dissertation work titled ``Abuse of power against clients by professional staff in care facilities{\crqq} is to establish whether the ethical codes are observed in the social and health care institutions providing accommodation services to their clients. Another objective of the work is to find out whether the employers running these institutions take adequate measures to prevent the burnt-out syndrome in their employees. The theoretical part of the work deals with the philosophical and ethical aspects in the client-employee relationship, defines various forms of aggression, its root causes and symptoms as experienced among the staff caring for the clients. It also summarises legal aspects of human rights violations in caring homes. The research part of the work summarises the findings acquired in the field survey using the questionnaires filled in by the staff working in the social and health care institutions accommodating clients in the district of Tábor. It is focused on their opinions, expertise and willingness to adhere to the quality standards and code of ethics, on the quality and type of the relationship with their clients and the ability to cope with the everyday challenges posed by their jobs. It also tries to identify the quality of communication between the management and the employees, the level of satisfaction at work and the possible prevention of the burnt-out syndrome. The staff employed in the social and health care institutions should refrain from any type of aggression and should always prefer standard means of communication as an inherent part of their professional conduct. To improve the ability to deal with potential conflicts and also as a preventive measure the psychological and therapeutic training is recommended. The recommendation aimed at the employers includes the development of human resources, their professional and personal development based on life-long learning in order to improve the communication between the management and employees, prevent the exhaustion by work overload and support the relaxation and leisure time activities of the staff. The outcome of the dissertation could help to improve the quality of care provided by professionals in the institutions accommodating clients and it could also provide some useful ideas how to improve the performance of the assisting staff in these institutions.
