Respondents of the Spanish superlative absolute (contrastive corpus analysis)

This bachelor thesis deals mainly with the Spanish absolute superlative and the issue of its translation into the Czech language. In the theoretical part, the general characteristics, classification and gradation of adjectives are introduced in general, and then the absolute superlative is discussed in great detail. In the practical part, a representative sample for a given linguistic phenomenon is defined and excerpted, and its mutual response in both languages is monitored, based on a corpus analysis in the Czech National Corpus InterCorp. The aim of the work is to collect the language means used for the translation of the absolute superlative and their frequency.

Theoretical part of this paper generally discusses adjectives, the graduation of adjectives and the absolute superlatives in Spanish and Czech. The theoretical part of this work is based on the language theories of the Spanish Royal Academy and the Spanish and Czech linguists who are devoted to this topic. The aim of this work is to outline the use of the absolute superlative in Spanish and to present possible variants of its translation into Czech, because in the Czech language system the absolute superlative is absent. The absolute superlative was analyzed in this work by using data in the Corpes XXI, single-lane corpus, and in the InterCorp, parallel corpus. Terms expressing superlatives in the language of the youth (magazines for young people)

In this thesis we concentrate on superlatives and other expressions to the greatest degree. The aim of this thesis is to map these expressions in the Spanish language of the youth. The thesis is divided to several parts. The first part describes superlatives from several different perspectives and the diversity of different theories represented by linguists. And in the second part we analyze magazines for young people, finding superlatives or other terms expressing the greatest degree. The result of this thesis is a well-arranged and organized report about the frequency of different superlatives. In the conclusion we graphically demonstrate the frequency of different superlatives and we prove the theoretical hypotheses.
