Functional pathology of musculoskeletal system in students of physiotherapy
Matocha, Jan ; Řasová, Kamila (advisor) ; Ragulová, Michaela (referee)
Among physiotherapists there is high prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders, which disrupt their personal and work life. Substantial part of them reports, first disorders begun when they studied pregradual physiotherapy, which corresponds with modern research among physiotherapy students. The goal of this thesis is to measure prevalence of functional disorders in population of physiotherapy students. In this study were 23 participants with average age of 20, which consisted of 21 women and 2 men. All functional disorders were examined during practical courses in subject "Fyzioterapie I", according to methodology taught on 3. faculty of medicine on Charles University. Examined functional disorders consisted of: side differences of anatomical circumference of limbs, range of motion in joints, trigger points, shortened muscles, hypermobility and examination by sight. Muscle, which were shortened most often, was mm. erectores trunci and hamstring muscles. No significant difference was found in range of motion examination, same as in examination of length and circumference of limbs. Most prevalent pathology found in examination by sight was position of shoulders, pelvic, and examination with plumb line from side. Out of 56 muscles trigger points without motoric response were found in 39 % and trigger...
Occurence and characteristics of functional disorders of the musculoskeletal system in physical therapy students during the studies
Perglerová, Anna ; Řasová, Kamila (advisor) ; Marková, Magdaléna (referee)
Introduction: Physical therapy is an essential part of medicine worldwide, helping with a wide range of issues across the population. The idea of this study was based on the assumption that physical therapy students themselves benefit from the acquired knowledge to maintain and improve their own health, which is particularly important given the physical demands of the physical therapy field. Objective: The aim of this study is to determine through a longitudinal, observational study, whether functional disorders of the musculoskeletal system occur in physical therapy students studying at the 3rd Faculty of Medicine of Charles University, and if so, how they develop over time during their studies. Methods: The research study involved 16 students (2 males and 14 females, with an average age of 20.28 years.) The measurements took place twice, once at the beginning of the first year of study immediately following enrollment at the university, and once at the end of the second year of study. Data collection was carried out at the Laboratory of Sports at the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport at Charles University under the supervision of department staff. The evaluated parameters included the level of physical activity assessed through a shortened form of the International Physical Activity...
The comparison of muscle imbalance changes in students of physiotherapy during their Bachelor´s studies
SEDLÁKOVÁ, Tereza
Bachelor thesis describes muscle disbalances, their occurrence and development in students of physiotherapy during their bachelor study. This study contains theoretical and practical parts. Theoretical part describes structure and functions of a muscle, motor control, single muscle disbalances, muscle chains, motor stereotypes, programs, stabilization system and creation of malfunctions and their chaining. Practical part contains case reports of four respondents. Kinesiological analysis and targeted therapy were done for selected students. The progress of muscle disbalances had been mapped from first to third year of their study. Results of measurements before and after therapy and results from the first year were compared. The aim of the study was to map the occurrence of muscle disbalances of physiotherapy students and to compare the changes of these disbalances before and after the therapy. To achieve defined objectives the qualitative form of research was used and four respondents participated. To obtain all data, semi-structured questionnaire, kinesiological analysis, interview with respondents and secondary data analysis were used. There were found smaller or bigger positive changes without the help of physiotherapist at three out of four respondents. Positive changes were noticed after comparison of results before and after the therapy with three students. One of the respondents had been suffering from gynaecological troubles at the time of the measurement as well as during the therapy. That could be the reason why there were no positive changes in her musculoskeletal system. The bachelor thesis can serve as educational material for students, healthcare workers as well as general public. It can help to improve awareness of muscle disbalances and serve as an example of their therapeutic solution. The thesis can be used as a base for further research.
