Spectrum analysis of nylon strings

This thesis discusses instruments that use nylon strings in the context of sound quality. The thesis briefly discusses the history of the instruments, where they can be encountered and where they fit within musical instruments. In addition, basic acoustical, physical and mathematical principles relevant to understanding the subject are described. The measurement process and results are then described, comparing samples according to their excitation and how their spectra change at different positions.
Greek and Roman musical instruments and their iconography

This thesis deals with ancient string and percussion instruments with additional focus on a hydraulic organ, an instrument that is difficult to categorize. The first part of the thesis is a follow-up to the bachelor thesis Wind Instruments of Ancient Greece and Rome, which is devoted to wind instruments, and deals with the classification, description and evolution of the instruments of the other two instrumental groups. This is illustrated on the background of literary, archaeological and iconographic sources, especially on the vase painting. Vase painting well demonstrates the shape, evolution and regional occurrence of these instruments. In the second part of this thesis the Attic and southern Italy vase paintings will be used to compare musical culture in both of these areas. In Attic music scenes the chronological evolution of depicted instruments is examined, while in southern Italian scenes we will concentrate on the differences of depicted instruments in the regions of Campania, Lucania, Sicily, Paestum and Apulia. Finally, the Attic musical instruments are compared with the instruments of southern Italy. The results of the analyses will be entered into graphs. In this Master Disertation author writes about history and developing of the strings, the most significant world producers and the news on the market for the strings section instruments. The first part is focused on the developing process of the strings, from the first known records about existing of them, through gut, metal, nylon versions to the newest inventions from last couple of years. In the second part are mentioned main producers together with history of their companies. In the enclosure are to find overviews of strings with detailed informations.

Summary Kim, S. Development of traditional korean music with focus on string instruments, Prague, 2014 Diploma thesis. Academy of performing arts in Prague. Music faculty The goal of this thesis is to describe development of korean music since 220 B. C. up to the present. I focused on musical styles and musical instruments in the course of korean history. I applied my mind to string instruments, what are detaily described in fourth part of this thesis. This thesis also includes characteristic and changes of single musical styles. Furthermore this thesis includes historical conjuctions and clarifies the way, how king's dynasty influenced korean music developmnent. Results of this thesis present clear musical progression overview of traditional korean music from origins to classical music era.
