The importance of group work during addiction treatment and risks thereof

The aim of this thesis is to describe and to evaluate the importance of group therapy during the treatment of addictions in the process of healing and social functioning of an individual and to identify the risks of group therapy. The theoretical part describes possible causes and personal presuppositions concerning the origin of addictions. It focuses on the importance of influence from one's family and raising, and how they affect addictions, codependency, psychotherapeutic approaches and models of family systems. The theoretical part furthermore characterizes group therapy, its techniques and methods, and specifies the matters, which can accompany the participants. In the practical part are processed data gained from questionnaires of respondents from therapeutical communities and after-treatment centers, who designated each group therapy, according to the perceived benefits and popularity in an ongoing treatment. The point of the research is to evaluate the relevancy of group therapy by addicted persons, to map the relevancy of each group therapy during the resolution of social issues and the acquirance of skills, and to summarize which therapeutical approaches are expected by the clients during their treatment, if they consciously approach the treatment, which factors act as healing, and which risks can accompany the treatment.
Art Work of Family Members of an Alcoholic

This bachelor thesis focuses on the topic of relatives of alcoholics and their art work. The theoretical part defines basic concepts concerning this topic: alcoholism, adult children of alcoholics, relatives of alcoholics, and codependency. This thesis also focuses on the influence an alcoholic environment can have on an individual's development and on different methods to help people who are fighting a loved one's alcoholism. The primary method discussed is self-help groups where people with similar problems meet and share their experiences. Finally, this thesis also considers the option of using art therapy with relatives of alcoholics. The practical part's goal is to find out how alcoholism manifests in the artwork of women who currently have or used to have alcoholics in their families and how it has affected their adult lives. It examines whether paintings presented by the women have common elements of color or composition and whether alcoholism or codependency manifests in them.
A case study of a recovering alcoholic wife living together with an alcoholic husband

Background: Abstinent woman, former alcohol user, who is in marriage with active alcohol user. Concept co-dependency (Kudrle, 2003, Whitfield, 1991). Determination, agreement and the will of the married couple for participation in this case study concerning alcohol use and its effects on their coexistence. Objectives and research questions: The main objective of this thesis was to investigate the coexistence of an alcohol-dependent husband with abstinent wife. The main research question was: How is the coexistence of dependent partner with abstinent wife? Additional research questions were: 1) Does, the coexistence look as harmonic in the eyes of the couple and does it fulfil the image of the ideal partnership? 2) What is the role of the respondents in the partnership - is there a sign of co-dependency? 3) Which are the relaps prevention techniques the wife use for maintaining the abstinence? 4) What circumstance or situations may motivate the husband to quit alcohol use? Methodology: The gathering of data for this case study was done by qualitative approach. The main collection methods were the semi-structures in-depth interviews (Miovský, 2006). How do the adult children of alcoholics live

Diplomová práce "Jak se žije dospělým dětem alkoholiků" se zabývá problematikou dospělých, kteří mají zkušenost dětství prožitého v rodině s rodičem-alkoholikem. Jedná se o kvalitativní studii, jejímž cílem je dopovědět na následující otázky: Jak vlastně vypadá dětství, dospívání a následně dospělý život lidí, kteří mají za sebou zkušenost dítěte alkoholika? Jak vypadá takové rodinné prostředí? Existují nějaká témata společná těm, kteří vyrůstali v takovém prostředí? Teoretická část obsahuje dosavadní poznatky studií, které se tématem dospělých dětí alkoholiků zabývají. Popisuje charakteristiky jak rodinného prostředí, tak způsoby uvažování a prožívání dospělých dětí alkoholiků. Metodologická část obsahuje definici výzkumného problému, metody získávání vzorku (samovýběr), metodu získávání dat (nestrukturované interview) a způsob jejich zpracování (narativní analýza, metody zachycení vzorců). Analytická část obsahuje samotné zpracování dat pěti respondentů. Jednotlivé příběhy nahlíženy jako určité životní konfigurace. Následně je uvedeno 28 témat, která jsou v různé míře respondentům výzkumu společná.
