Some gender aspects in the sociotherapeutical process
HUŇOVÁ, Jana
This thesis deals with the issues gender aspects in the socio-therapeutic process. The objective is to describe the behaviour of clients in the socio-therapeutic process in terms of gender aspects. During an analysis of gender issues, this thesis is based on the concept of gender as a socially and culturally conditioned construct occurring through social interactions depending on a particular context of life. Post-modern gender-sensitive social work rejects the idea of both female and male ?nature?", which should result in specific male and female models of social work practice. Social therapy, in terms of approaches utilizing the therapeutic potential of the social environment, as part of social work can be viewed through the same gender lens as social work, and thus categorize those gender aspects that are topical in social work in general. The empirical part is based on qualitative research methods. To obtain relevant data, the technique of non-standardized depth interviews with selected clients and the technique of involved observation were used. The research confirmed the existence of gender aspects in the socio-therapeutic process in the environment of a particular monitored community. Gender aspects were present in the interviewee?s views or in the behaviour of questioned clients, both male and female, from the monitored community and also in the approach of therapists and therapist in the monitored facility. The results of the qualitative research can serve as the basis of any quantitative research that could be aimed at studying the relationship between gender-sensitive environment of a community of people with mental illness and the success of social therapy. Another area of quantitative research could be seen in the study of differences in the clients? perception of men and women in the performance of their professional roles and social therapists.
