Social Functioning of Homeless People
VALUCH, Jan
This thesis is focused on the social functioning of homeless people. You can simply say that social functioning is a dialectical process between the requirements of the person and the environment, which should lead to its mutual balance. If we focus our attention on the homeless people and their needs, we often meet with the fact that their demands are not in equilibrium with the environment. At this stage there should operate a complex network of social services to offset the balance between the homeless people and the environment. On the other hand it cannot be done without the participation of homeless people themselves, who have the right to self-determination. In the theoretical part of the work I deal with the basic knowledge about homelessness, I deal with its causes, types, risks associated with it, prevention, and last but not least services that assist in the renewal of the social functioning of homeless people. For the practical part, I chose a qualitative research strategy, using interviewing method and as a data collection technique I chose semi-structured interview. The interview contained 26 questions that were chosen to correspond with the theoretical part, and in order to achieve the desired goal. With the help of applying the snowball method, 5 homeless communication partners were chosen. The main objective was to determine how homeless people function socially with emphasis on social interaction and possibilities of social assistance. For the research purpose I established a research question - What are the preferences of homeless people in the context of social functioning? The results show that homeless people prefer the free life and prefer to take care of themselves within the homeless community, rather than begging for help or take advantage of social services designed for them. On the street the feeling of safety and comfort is not satisfied and they live in fear, though they do not attempt to use the shelters or hostels, and in most cases they do not seek to participate in the re-socialization. The family aspect is replaced by their homeless comrades, with whom they spend all their time on the streets, using alcohol in order to cope with the reality. This work can serve as a support or basis for further research. Furthermore, the work can serve as a basis for discussion in university seminars and lectures dealing with social work and social policy.
Paradigm in social work
PETRÁŠKOVÁ, Renata
In Social Work, the term paradigm is used to express a specific perspective on the discipline. There are multiple paradigms in Social Work. They are not in a hierarchical relationship to each other, rather they coexist as alternatives. In contrast, the term paradigm as introduced by Thomas Khun and used in science, assumes the existence and superiority of one the newest paradigm. This thesis discusses similarities and differences in formulating paradigms in Social Work and science. It uses the concept of social functioning to describe and explain paradigms in Social Work.
The specialized social consultancy in sphere of hearing like a implement of improvement in social function
ENTLICHEROVÁ, Ivana
In my thesis I explain the basic terms in the field of hearing impairment. One of my topics is what is for hearing impairment people specialist social consulting and social functioning. I divide hearing impairment people according to their loss of hearing. I describe and divide compensatory aids for this target group: communication barriers (hearing aid, personal amplifier, turned-up cell phones), then for information barriers (an induction loop, wireless headphones and headphones for radios and TVs) and in the end barriers deal with a contact with an external environment (signalling of a door bell, signalling of time or others actions). Due to wideness of this problem I am focused on the communication barrier which is the most important one from the point of view of social excluding. Other communication barriers follow this one. I deal with a qualitative research using the method of "coincidence selection" and a technique of a semi-controlled dialogue. The research was done in Poradenské centrum pro sluchově postižené v Táboře.
