Diploma thesis with the topic Speech therapy intervention for children with Down syndrome from the perspective of the parent examines how the parent of a child with Down syndrome perceives speech therapy and what he sees as its greatest essence and benefit. The diploma thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. The diploma thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part contains chapters related to the issue of Down syndrome. The theoretical part is devoted to the definition of Down syndrome, the prevalence and history of Down syndrome. The theoretical part further deals with the etiology, describes the forms of Down's syndrome and possible risk factors. It also presents the diagnosis of Down syndrome and the main characteristics, symptoms of Down syndrome. Last but not least, the theoretical part of the diploma thesis deals with physical signs in children with Down syndrome and is also devoted to speech therapy and parents of children with Down syndrome. The practical part states the goal of the work, which is to find out how parents of children with Down syndrome perceive speech therapy.
