Influencing of residual strength of foundry cores bonded with biogenic binder

Foundry technology is an industrial sector, where progress is still the important aspect for reducing the environmental impact and increasing competitiveness. Master's thesis is focused on the possibilities of influencing residual strength of the core moulding mixtures with the biogenic binders, which forms a new group of binder systems.

Foundry production produces the biggest amount of dangerous waste, which has a negative impact on environment and working conditions in the foundry. The foundry engineers test new technologies of shaping mixtures with new binders to protect environment and working conditions. We can reduce the production of dangerous waste by using better technologies and less harmful materials, which are needed for modeling forms and cores. The large source of pollution are binders, hardeners and catalyzer needed for binding sand. This work is focused on new types of ecological binders, which are dissolvable in water and are formed by setting temperature. These binders are ecological variants of known inorganic and organic binders.
Identification of milk and collagenous binders used in colour layers in art works

The task of this diploma thesis was to investigate the influence of inorganic pigments on the identification of casein oil and animal glue tempera by mass spectrometry MALDI- -TOF MS (Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionisation - Time of Flight Mass Spectrometry). First, it was necessary to prepare a set of model colour layers containing casein and animal glue tempera together with ten inorganic pigments. Consequently, the method of peptide mass fingerprinting was used to obtain mass spectra of the samples. Finally, it was possible to compare and determine the characteristic peptide fragments for both proteinaceous binders and find pigments that most affected the identification of casein and rabbit glue temperas. The obtained values of m/z casein oil tempera and animal glue tempera were used to improve and complete reference database of protein binders that is used to identify protein binders in works of art at the Institute of Chemical Technology in Prague.

The main goal of a submitted bachelor's thesis is to compile recent knowledge about resins and protein media used in works of art, to describe their composition and, in particular to evaluate the changes they undergo in time after their application on canvas, wooden or metal surfaces and paper to their irrecoverable destruction. In addition, biological degradation of these substances by several species of bacteria, yeasts and fungi is discussed in the last part of this work.
