The relationship with the Police ČR and choosen nonconforming subcultures
ŠUPLER, Josef
The aim of my bachelor thesis was to describe the attitudes of the Police members in the CR to chosen subcultures existing in contemporary Czech society as well as identify possible antipathies towards certain subcultures. In the theoretical part I focused on defining relevant terms such as attitude, prejudice, stereotype and subculture. However, the major part of the literature search deals with particular subcultures like graffiti artists, participants in illegal free techno parties, hooligans, skinheads, anarchists, satanists, EMO style and gay and lesbian subcultures. Each subculture is briefly characterized, including its short history. Before starting the investigation I defined two hypotheses. Hypothesis no.1: Respondents inthe age group of 26 ? 35 years view the subcultures in a more positive way than the respondents over 55 years of age. This hypothesis was not proved. The views of the respondents were not significantly different. Hypothesis no.2: The subcultures which the respondents encounter when in service are viewed more negatively by them than the subcultures which they do not ever encounter. This hypothesis was proved. During the investigation I used the technique of quantitative-qualitative research according to my own questionnaire, together with in-depth interviews with several chosen respondents. The anonymous questionnaire was filled in by 106 respondents ? members of the Police of the Czech Republic, out of which there were 78 men and 28 women. The survey contained both the questions about the respondents and other questions related to particular nonconformist subcultures. The in-depth interviews were carried out with 6 respondents in order to investigate their attitudes more thoroughly.
Ageism
MOTTLOVÁ, Petra
Theoretical part of the bachelor work concentrates on: human age dividing, age ideology, age norms and sources of ageismus and demonstration of ageismus. Summary of theoretical part is dedicated to intergeneration prejudice. In the practical part of the bachelor work I concentrate on the research itself. The aim of this research is discovery of the prejudice existence from younger generation to older generation and its possible manifestation. The method, I chose for data gathering, was questionnaire (semantic differential). Questioning seniors I was trying to find out both ageistic attitudes and stereotypes, concerning seniors and old age and personal experience of the questioned ones with behaviour demonstration towards his/her person, which is conveyed by a senior. Overall 225 questionnaires were compiled. Research sample consisted of the population at the age of 15 {--} 74 years old in the district of Pelhrimov. The choice of respondents was random. The results are shown in the tables through middle figures for each age category. Outputs of the practical part are results confirming the hypothesis of decreasing number of prejudice to seniors with growing age. Existence of age discrimination is not denied by the research. On the other hand significant confirmation of ageismus in intergeneration attitudes was not possible to approve. In the conclusion it is necessary to state, that ageismus is represented in the population mainly by the people at the age by 30 years old, but general attitudes to old age and seniors are more likely positive. In hidden, but a very significant way, ageismus can be shown in the area of work market.

Public prejudice to epileptics
DOUBKOVÁ, Ivana
Epilepsy, a paroxysmal brain illness, is not a disease that would prevent patients from living their lives fully and from achieving aims they set themselves. Even these days there is a great deal of prejudice and negative feeling when it comes to epilepsy. The present diploma thesis deals with the problem of prejudice and general public opinions towards people suffering from epilepsy in the region of České Budějovice (Budweis), Czechia. The thesis also handles the problem of respondents{\crq} awareness of epilepsy in that region. In the theoretical part of the thesis the author summed up all important knowledge about epilepsy from the medical point of view, focusing on the impact of the illness on each person{\crq}s social life. The objective of the present diploma thesis was to ascertain general public opinions on epileptics in the region of České Budějovice. A sub-goal was to ascertain general public awareness of epilepsy in the aforementioned region. In accordance with the set goals, the following hypotheses were formulated: ``The general public feel negative prejudice against epileptics.{\crq}q ``The general public does not have correct information on epilepsy.{\crq}q Both hypotheses have been confirmed. The research was a quantitative one. The author used the method of questioning, the questionnaire and semantic deferential techniques. Respondents were chosen from general population, aged 18 and older, living in the region of České Budějovice. The research has shown that ordinary people feel negative prejudice and have negative opinions in terms of epileptics. They often assume that epileptics are mentally ill, and not capable of working on a regular basis. Furthermore, the research has proved that the general public do not have correct information on epilepsy, particularly in the field of epileptic fits, first aid and the treatment. Public education ought to be oriented to primary and secondary school pupils and students because only thus young people can adopt positive thinking and opinions on epilepsy, and this may well survive when they grow older and be passed down to other generations.
