Hydrological Drought in Headwaters of Šumava Mountain

This master thesis if focused on the phenomenon of hydrological drought in the Šumava (Bohemian/Black Forrest) region. Hydrological drought is defined on seven hydrological stations (Modrava (CZ), Rejštějn (CZ), Sušice (CZ), Zwiesel (DE), Teisnach (DE), Chamerau (DE), Kalteneck (DE)) during period 1931-1937 and 1949-2014. The aim is in finding suitable hydrological dought indexes and other methods and apply them od the data. Results are compared each other and also are compared with studies that were proceed in non-mountainous region. For hydrological drought evaluation the threshold concept and method according Gumbel 1963 were used and deficite volumes were calculated. Seasonality graphs and graphs for nuber of drought days in hydrological years were constructed, For trends defining, Mann.Kendall and Hisch-Slack tests were used. Hydrological drought sesonality is different on german and czech side, it means effect of exposition towards southwest winds. Hydrological drought is concetrated in autumn at german stations and in winter on czech stations. Number of drought episodes decreases with decreasing elevation. There were found significant decreasing trends in drought episodes occurance in time. Monthly trends aren't so clear. On czech side there is significant decreasing trend in winter months,...
Rainfall-runoff regime in the headwater part of the Bystřice River basin

Rainfall-runoff regime in the headwater part of the Bystřice River Abstract This bachelor thesis deals with the rainfall-runoff regime and analysis of extreme situations in the headwater part of the Bystřice River basin. At first, the area of interest is described in physical and geographical terms and the influences of individual factors on the runoff are mentioned. The text content is documented by maps. The characteristic of rainfall-runoff regime is evaluated by means of runoff variability parameters. The variability is assessed by means of collected data using charts illustrating exceedance probability of average daily discharges in years 2009 and 2010. The flow variations are evaluated on the basis of decile deviations. The distribution of monthly discharges in the Bystřice River is displayed and the monthly flow variability is described in pie graphs separately for hydrological years 2009 and 2010. The monthly balance of the runoff is also evaluated by means of statistical measures of Kr and Cv coefficients. Finally, the runoff regime evaluation is completed with exceedance probability calculation of the mean annual discharge. The assessment of selected extreme events forms an important part of the thesis. Extreme situations are compared with synoptic situations; it contributes to explain causal...

Streamflow dynamics in the upper Křemelná River basin

Submitted thesis analyses and summarizes findings about runoff dynamics in the upper Křemelná River basin (SW Czechia, Šumava Mountains). A theoretical part of the thesis describes existing findings about hydrological extremes related to ongoing climatic change in the Central Europe region. It is also focused on water retention in headwaters, physical-geographic factors influencing runoff and runoff assessment approaches. Within the practical part of the thesis the accent was put on correct construction of discharge curves and on time series cleansing. Using basic hydrological statistics the daily, monthly and annual runoff regime in Stodůlky state profile and in chosen experimental catchments of the Department of Physical Geography and Geoecology, Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague, were assessed. Results show slightly unbalanced runoff in the upper Křemelná River basin. The highest rate of discharge is typical for spring period during snowmelt and increased discharges are significant also within winter floods. Increased summer discharges are reflected in daily, but not in monthly mode, due to their short time of duration.
