View of the patient and a view of the nurse on quality of life
Portlová, Emilie ; Mareš, Jiří (advisor) ; Vaňková, Dana (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with the quality of life of polymorbid women patients, seniors hospitalized in the institution of subsequent care. The aim of the work was to determine whether and to what extent there is a diference between the selected patients' view and the nurses' view of the patients'quality of life. The theoretical part primarily focuses on the old age and ageing process, its causes, positive and negative sides, and therapy options in terms of scientific studies. It also describes the terms related to the bachelor thesis, such as geriatrics, geriatric patient, but also the concept of quality of life and its measurement approaches. The empirical part studies the quality of life of six patients and there was chosen a qualitative approach. It was a recorded interview, which was transcribed into a protocol and analysed. It resulted into a theoretical model, which has these parts: Period before the illness, Turning- point, Current state, Memories and Future perspectives. The chosen patients compared their current state, their present quality of life in the way how they experience it during the illness with the quality of life before the illness, and with their view to the future. It was confirmed that polymorbidity had affected their quality of life in all areas. The other group of...
Polypharmacy in the old age- negative outcomes
Fidranský, Filip ; Fialová, Daniela (advisor) ; Thomson, Petra (referee)
Introduction: Older persons usually suffer from multiple chronic disorders and consequently use more medications than younger adults and often polypharmacy. Polypharmacy is, unfortunately, one of the risk factors for negative outcomes in the old age. The aim of this diploma thesis was to summarize by narrative literature review the negative outcomes of polypharmacy in older adults documented in pharmacoepidemological studies published between 2005 and 2015 years. The outputs of this diploma thesis create part of results of the research subgroup "Aging and Changes in the Therapeutic Value of Medications in the Aged" (Department of Social and Clinical Pharmacy, Faculty of Pharmacy, Charles Univerzity) and the EU COST Action initiative IS1402 (2015-2018). Methods: Using datasets of Web of Science, PubMed and Embase, the narrative literature review was conducted in the period 2014 - 2015, in which we summarized outcome studies dealing with negative outcomes of polypharmacy in older patients published between 2005- 2015 years. Key words for the literature review were: "seniors, older patients, elderly, older age, polypharmacy, polymedication, multiple drug use, negative outcomes, impact, hospitalization, mortality, averse reactions, averse drug events, costs, expenditures. We identified 563 studies...
Polypharmacy in the old age - prevalence, risk factors
Klofáčová, Aneta ; Fialová, Daniela (advisor) ; Marešová, Helena (referee)
Introduction: Population is demographically aging and proportion of older adults in the society increases. Also the number of sick persons raises, and the high consumption of drugs and polypharmacotherapy in old age are global problems. The definition of polypharmacotherapy is not uniform. Most commonly it is defined as the use of 5 or more drugs simultaneously. In the scientific literature we also see the term "excessive polypharmacotherapy". This is defined as the use of 10 or more drugs simultaneously. Polymorbidity, irrational indications, wrong diagnostics of drug-related problems, but also changes in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics common in the old age contribute to polypharmacotherapy. It is important that pharmacotherapy in the old age must be simple, effective and safe. Methods: Using the electronic database PubMed, all studies on the subject "Polypharmacotherapy in Old Age" published in 2005-2015 were reviewed. The data were summarized in tables. Studies that included causal factors (predictors) of polypharmacotherapy were also evaluated. The most frequently prescribed drugs in geriatric patients with polypharmacotherapy were recorded in a separate table. Results: In this diploma thesis, the prevalence of polypharmacotherapy was compared from 81 studies. We found that the...
